Negative view of Islam rising(Poll)

WASHINGTON: Out of five Americans only one has a favourable impression of Islam, revealed a recent poll.

The poll conducted by the US television network, CBS, found that 45 percent of respondents queried April 6-9 said they have an unfavourable view of Islam, a rise from 36 percent in February. The public’s impression of Islam has diminished even more compared with four years ago. In February 2002 - less than six months after the terrorist attacks of September 11 - the country was evenly divided in its impression of Islam.

The new poll showed that only 19 percent had a favourable view of Islam, compared to 30 percent in 2002. While 33 percent had an unfavourable view of Islam in 2002, the percentage has now risen to 45. Thirty-six percent of respondents said they haven’t heard enough or don’t know enough to say either way. The poll finds 46 percent of Americans believe Islam encourages violence more than other religions, compared with 39 percent of Americans who felt that way two months ago and 35 percent who felt that way in March 2002 (according to a Gallup Poll). When compared with some other religions practised in America, positive views of Islam rank below those for mainstream Protestantism, Catholicism, Judaism, and Christian fundamentalist faiths. Only Scientology, of all the religions asked about, ranked lower. As for other faiths, 58 percent had a favourable impression of Protestantism, 48 percent of Catholicism, 47 percent of the Jewish religion, 31 percent of Christian fundamentalist religions, 20 percent of the Mormon religion, 19 percent of Islam, and eight percent of Scientology, the faith followed by Hollywood’s top leading man, Tom Cruise.

Islam and Scientology at the bottom.

The survey pegged things just about right.

ROP is awesome! Beheadings! Suicide Bombers! Murder, rape of Infidels! Riots over cartoons! All converts to Christianity are killed!

Why would anyone have any issues with any of that?

Meanwhile, in Europe:

EU officials are “discreetly reviewing" the language it uses to describe terrorists who claim to act in the name of Islam. EU officials are working on what they call a ‘lexicon’ for public communication on terrorism and Islam, designed to make clear that there is nothing in the religion to justify outrages like the Sept. 11 attacks or the bombings of Madrid and London. The lexicon would set down guidelines for EU officials and politicians.”

I think they just need a better PR guy to put a little better spin on all those. Perhaps if they just renamed some of those things it might help. Maybe the MSM can start referring to beheadings as 'spiritial growth' or something a bit more positive anyways.

There is some 20% who will never catch on. I am kind of surprised it is that low. Usually there is abou 25% of the Hate America First crowd that can blame everything on America. You know like Cindy Sheheen who blames America for her sons deaths, not the goons who actually killed him.

Is that 19% of the American public Muslim or just ignorant (or stupid)? I'm surprised it's not less than Scientology.

The number should be in the high 70%, but the press has taken it upon itself to lie and convince the American people that Islam is the religion of peace. Islam has the doctrine to either convert or kill anyone who is not Islam and now they are even killing their own. The "Honor" rapes and killings are just another indication of their "peaceful" religion.

Love the graphic - yet in another thread and elsewhere on the web every day we get lefties using the Bush = Nazi drivel.

Let's see...

1) Democracy and elections that really aren't
2) Use of paramilitary forces to strongarm any government holdouts
3) Intimidation/shutdown of critical media
4) Propaganda that promises a sense of belonging but eventually turns to violence and murder for not joining the cause
5) Setting up an imaginary enemy/oppressor as a rallying cry

Germany in 1933 or the Islamic movement in 2006?

Do these numbers seem low to the rest of you?

Less than half had a favorable impression of Judaims and Catholocism?

That's pretty screwed up.

Nothing like 30+ years of unfavorable treatment in the mass media, to drive down the numbers.

If all you ever heard about was Jim and Tammy Faye Baker, the worst quotes of Jerry Falwell taken out of context, pedophile priests, etc., you might get a bad impression, too.

Good heavens! All one has to do is look at the history of Islam to see what its roots are, what its tenets are, the lives of the majority of people under it, the lives of non-Muslims under it...what's to like?
