Backers of Proposition 82, which would offer free preschool to all California 4-year-olds, called for a boycott of Gap Inc. because of its owners' opposition to the June ballot measure.
About two dozen Prop. 82 supporters set up a boisterous but peaceful picket outside the Gap's San Francisco flagship store at Powell and Market streets on Thursday. John Fisher, whose father is Gap founder Don Fisher and who manages the family's multibillion-dollar investment portfolio, gave $25,000 to the campaign opposed to Prop. 82. Family members also have contributed to business groups campaigning against Prop. 82.
"Let people like Mr. Fisher know we are not going to shop at the Gap. We are not going to accelerate the greed,'' said San Francisco Board of Supervisors President Aaron Peskin, who joined the rally that was organized by labor and community groups.

Oh no...does this mean I need to go out and buy Gap jeans? I don't like that place... but I try to oppose unfair boycotts - the guy is opposing a gigantic new government program that will undercut existing private expenditures to benfit only a few. It's the worst kind of giveaway program.
And for the record, my birthday is coming up... I wear 32W 36L in jeans. ;-)
"Yes, absolutely.

You've obviously done better with your weight than I - congratulations!
"I wear 32W 36L in jeans."
Bragging is not nice.
(just kidding)
John Burton Says No On The Reiner InitiativeI don't agree with most of his reasoning, but his opposition is welcome!John Burton, former leader of the California State Senate and famous San Francisco liberal, has come out against movie director Rob Reiner's universal preschool initiative, Proposition 82 on California's June ballot. Burton, calling the measure deeply flawed, cited four reasons for his opposition to what many liberals have seen as a motherhood and apple pie initiative.
"Without any income tests the plan would help wealthy and middle class families who already take advantage of preschool, but not reach those who need it most: poor, disadvantaged and English learning children. K-12 education faces a shortage of qualified teachers. Prop. 82 offers more competition that could keep teachers out of classrooms. The initiative would pay more per pupil for a few hours of preschool than many K-12 schools get for a whole day. Prop 82 ties up a resource stream that should go to the general fund for a variety of important state programs."
C'mon folks. This is just a tax on the "rich." It's free money! Taking from the wealthiest. How can you possibly oppose that?? They wouldn't dare vote with their feet! ;>)
I love the unbiased reporting: cruel, heartless company opposes the state "offering" "free" pre-school. Uh, I think they mean MANDATING private citizens being FORCED to pay for "free" pre-school.
Typical idiot, moron dem. Doesn't stop to think that the taxes the stores generate are where he get the money to spend.
Where do you buy jeans for a beanpole. I, however, am a perfect 34W 34L.:)

I know people in the media who really don't get why we think they are biases... - like the stories about Vice President Cheney - they are lead with him getting almosta $2 million tax refund instead of him giving almost all his income to charity.
I noticed that about Cheney as well. How many liberals, let alone normal people give the bulk of their (even after tax) money to charity?

Almost no one gives three quarters of their income to charity. It is a staggering statement of bias that the media instead focuses on the Vice President's tax refund.
