My daddy spent 35 years as an active-duty Marine (grunt, then Marine Recondo--including WWII, Korea, and three tours in Viet Nam). He says as long as "they" did their jobs, no one really cared.

That sounds like a big old bunch of crap. Do you have any way to back that up? It sounds to me like you're making that all up in your tiny little head.

I thought you were going to stay away from FreeRepublic for a while. Do you remember? I joined an exodus of old-timers from FR a few months back back because it was being taken over by individuals who were, shall we say, intellectually inferior. I came back briefly to see if all the jokes over the internet about FR were wrong. They're not. and of course, Oh well, I'm out of here...

Less than three months ago, you made the claim that your father had served for 30 years. By the way, my daddy was a 30-year Marine... That's a pretty impressive jump in three months from 30 years to 35 years.

They all come back to FreeRepublic... even the trolls.

He does have a point on homo's in the military... while few in number, they did exist. Manchester writes of at least one in his memoir of the Pacific Theater in WWII... 'Goodbye Darkness'. This individual was a Marine who 'snapped' during a long artillery barrage... a 'model-soldier' till all hell broke loose. He alludes to another... an officer who distinguished himself on Okinawa at 'Sugar-loaf'. If I remember correctly, he received the Navy Cross for his actions.

I'm sure they did exist... but it was never 'excepted' behavior in the armed services.
