Immigration march, rally today (Designed to disrupt maximum rush hour traffic in Seattle)
Seattle Times ^ | 4/10/2006 | Lornet Turnbull

Shortly after noon today, Graham Black will close down his construction company and trade his work boots for walking shoes.

The owner of gProjects in Seattle will join thousands of immigrant supporters marching from St. Mary's Church in the Central Area to a rally at the Jackson Federal Building in downtown.

The Seattle event is part of a National Day of Action, in which marchers from more than 70 cities nationwide are calling on Congress to pass immigration reform they say would provide a clear path to citizenship, help unite families and ensure workplace and civil-rights protections.

"We are working on homes that customers are slated to move into in four and 11 days," Black said, adding that most of his 12 workers are immigrants. "But I felt it was important for me and for my workers to have our voices heard."

"At one point or another, we're all immigrants," he said.

The ralliers plan to leave St. Mary's, a Roman Catholic church on 20th Avenue South, at 3:30 p.m. and march west on South Jackson and South King streets and then north on Fourth Avenue.

"We're closing down," she said, referring to both the day-laborer center on Western Avenue and the Casa Latina offices on Blanchard Street. "And of course our taco stand will be closed, too."

Awwwwwww, geeeeeeez....how will Seattle live without its Casa Latina Tacos?

April 10 National Day of Action for Immigrant Rights! May 1 National Boycott!

Join the Immigrant Rights Movement!

April 10 National Day of Action!

May 1 Great American Boycott!

Dear ANSWER friend,

The massive protests, rallies, walk-outs and political strikes by immigrant workers and their supporters have shaken the political establishment in this country. It has been the action of the people themselves that has changed the political climate. All eyes have been focused on the streets as this new civil rights/workers rights movement has exploded in Los Angeles, Chicago and literally hundreds of other cities and towns.

It's important at this critical moment to keep up the pressure and continue to focus on the streets and the mass action of the people and never allow the politicians to decide how much equality or how much inequality, or how much repression, should be meted out to the millions of hard working immigrant families. The politicians and their corporate backers would like to see this new mass movement end because they know it could be the spark that ignites a revived nation-wide anti-racist labor movement. Immigrant workers, including the undocumented workers, are the sisters and brothers and allies of all those struggling for justice. The demand must be carried forward in all mass actions planned for April 10 and the upcoming May 1 Great American Boycott of 2006: Full equality for all workers and nothing less!

During the past weeks the A.N.S.W.E.R. Coalition has been deeply involved in mobilizing for the mass actions in Los Angeles and elsewhere. A.N.S.W.E.R. volunteers and organizers have been working round the clock to help in logistics, organization, mobilization and all the other tasks involved in showing authentic solidarity with the immigrant workers movement.

The ANSWER Coalition (Act Now to Stop War and End Racism) is supporting the call made by leaders of immigrant rights organizations for a May 1 National Boycott. The boycott - which means no work, no school, no shopping, buying, or business as usual - will show the country that the immigration debate is not a choice between bad and worse. The people have a voice, and the people say, "Full rights for Immigrants! Amnesty for Undocumented Workers!" No human being is illegal - full equality is not only a reasonable and achievable demand, it is also a fundamental right.

For the past four and a half years, the A.N.S.W.E.R. Coalition has organized mass demonstrations from coast to coast against the Bush administration's criminal war drive, and its assault on civil rights and civil liberties. The A.N.S.W.E.R. Coalition has linked the fight against war and militarism with the struggle against racism and for social justice.

May 1 Great American Boycott:
A National Day Without an Immigrant

Join immigrants and supporters to make Monday, May 1, 2006 a national “day without an immigrant.” Anti-immigrant politicians and hatemongers call immigrants “a drain on society” - they try to pass repressive legislation like HR 4437 and encourage groups like the racist “Minutemen.” But immigrants contribute billions to the economy and receive few benefits in return. We will settle for nothing less than full amnesty and dignity for the millions of undocumented workers presently in the United States. Let’s show the government, corporations and racist politicians that a powerful, united peoples’ movement has the power to win Civil Rights, workers’ rights and make history. No business as usual on May 1!

On March 25, 2006, over a million people protested for immigrant rights in Los Angeles.

Did you see Rod Maxwell on Fox News just now.

He was basically telling it as it is, it's an INVASION!! And none of the people in the Senate during the immigration debate spoke for the U.S. voters.

But his best statement was a jab at Ted Kennedy, who was show live about to give a speech to the illegal immigrate protestors.

To quote Mr. Maxwell, "I am not surprised that Kennedy would be in the middle of a group of none citizens."
