Of course. Inflame the issue with immigration rallies and protests and thereby turn the GOP base against Bush and the Republicans in the Senate. Divide and conquer.

Seems to be pretty quiet so far.

GOP base against Bush and the Republicans in the Senate. Divide and conquer.

If things continue along as they are there will be no comprehensive agreement either through Senate impasse or failure in conference.

Eventually this will benefit Republicans because Democrats are being forced into the position of denouncing increased border enforcement and stiff penalties. Even Rinos are for increased border enforcement and penalties.

"Inflame the issue with immigration rallies and protests and thereby turn the GOP base against Bush and the Republicans in the Senate"

Conservatives did not need rallies and protests to turn against Bush and (many of) the Republicans in the Senate. Conservatives have turned against them for their pro-illegal alien, anti-U.S. citizen policies. I would be against them without one spanish speaking protester waiving a Mexican flag. However, the extent of the rallies and protests does reinforce the conservative belief that this Country has, indeed, been invaded. This will make even some moderates agree with the conservatives that our President and Senate are selling us out.
