It doesn't have the votes to pass. A straightforward amnesty only measure could get through the Senate absent a filibuster. But its DOA on arrival in the House. So unless Senators come up with a bill that has good enforcement provisions in it, I don't think you'll see an acceptable immigration bill reach the President's desk this year.

I agree, simply because of who the president is. Bush never said he was hardline regarding Mexico. Bush vs. Gore, in many ways, was a 'two card monte'. Good was done, sure. But we CAN do better.
We need to get out of 'the Bushes' and the Clintonoid Jungle before anything meaningful is done about borders. What kind of jerk is Rush going to cram down everyones' throat this time around, in the 2008 primary?
