WASHINGTON, April 6 After days of painstaking negotiations, Senate leaders today hammered out a broad, bipartisan compromise that would put the vast majority of the nation's 11 million illegal immigrants on a path to citizenship.
The plan would also create a temporary worker program that would allow 325,000 foreigners to fill jobs in the United States each year. The Senate was expected to vote on the measure late today or early Friday and, if passed, it would mark the most sweeping immigration accord in two decades.
Under the agreement, illegal immigrants who have lived here for five years or more about seven million people would eventually be granted citizenship if they remained employed, paid fines and back taxes and learned English. Illegal immigrants who have lived here from two to five years about three million people would have to leave the country briefly and return as temporary workers. They would also be eligible for citizenship over time, but they would have to wait several years longer for it.

I can see where you're coming from. If I lived in NYC, I'd be worried, too.

We are not talking about the 10,000 or so immigrants who over stayed their visa permit. We are talking about the 10 MILLION or so illegal immigrants who jumped over the U.S. border, and didn't even try to get a visa in the first place. I don't know how accurate your number are, or what difference it really makes.
The 9/11 hijackers all entered legally and overstayed their visas.
I doubt most who crossed the border illegally are as much a danger.

So why are you pro-illegal immigration?
To: Spiff
So that no one has any doubt about your true agenda here, I've laid it all out.
Yeah, way to go Spiff! Blackbird.

I will NOT vote Democrat "Just Because". If you haven't noticed the present Democrats are worse. I don't know what I would do if I had to put up with a Democratic president that I didn't like. From this day forward I will be asking pertinent questions to anyone running for president who shows me he/she can carry the will of the people. I have heard this bill will not be voted for until after the November election. Republicans will filibuster it until then. Get out and talk to your senators and congressmen, make them put on the record what they will do and HOLD them to it.

So why are you pro-illegal immigration? I'm not "pro-illegal" anything.
Are you pro-stealing because you decide not to call the police on an aquaintance or family member who hit you? or stole from you?
I'm pro any comprehensive measure passed by Congress that helps us to get a handle on this situation in realistic terms.
Throwing 11 million people in jail or deporting them all is not realistic. It's NOT going to happen. And I wouldn't support it even if it could happen.

This is nothing more than a rope a dope.
Talk tough until the elections and then sell the voters down the drain to the big donor's.
We didn't enforce the law after the 1980's fiasco and we want after the 2006 fiasco.
You who believe this is the right thing can hide in a closet and you'll eventually see this was not a good day for AMERICA, mark it on your calendar.

That's it. I'm tearing up my American citizenship. My family had to jump through lots of hoops doing it the real way and these idiots happen to swim over here, not bother to learn the culture, and not even bother to get vaccinated!
Screw this, I'm going to Alberta. [/frustration]

How is hitting someone, stealing?
or stole from you?
Yes, I would call the police, if they do not return what was stolen.
I'm pro any comprehensive measure passed by Congress that helps us to get a handle on this situation in realistic terms.
Your solution will put the U.S. in the same situation as France is in right now with immigrants who refuse to assimilate. And note those immigrants in France are legal immigrants, so granting 12 million illegal immigrants, citizenship is not a sure way to solving the problem.
Plus, amnesty was been done before in the 1980's by President Reagan. It didn't work then and it will not work now. And I loath repeating the same mistake.
Throwing 11 million people in jail or deporting them all is not realistic.
And letting them continue to live off of taxpaying U.S. citizens is a solution. Which it is not.
It's NOT going to happen.
Those are famous last words. Keep in mind right now that State and Local police cannot enforce immigrantion laws. If you allow them too, mass deportations will happen.
And I wouldn't support it even if it could happen.
So you prefer a two tier society in the U.S. where illegal immigrants are considered more important than native born, law-abiding U.S. citizens.

"Are you pro-stealing because you decide not to call the police on an aquaintance or family member who hit you?"
How is hitting someone, stealing?
I attached STEALING to the end of that sentence...which you of course left off so you could nit-pick.
I beg forgiveness from the grammar police for misplacing my punctuation marks.....
