About 7.2 million unauthorized migrants were employed in March 2005, accounting for about 4.9% of the civilian labor force. They made up a large share of all workers in a few more detailed occupational categories, including 24% of all workers employed in farming occupations, 17% in cleaning, 14% in construction and 12% in food preparation.

You mean to tell me you're ready to go to war against illegals because they occupy FIVE PERCENT of the work force? I had no idea it was so low.

There is weeping and gnashing of teeth when 86% of the construction industry employs non-illegals?

Thanks for that statistic. It's going to come in handy.

Tell me. What is the job breakdown in "farming occupations"? How many American citizens are picking grapes and oranges, versus illegals?

That was 2005. There are 3 to 10 thousand more coming in per day taking jobs THAT AMERICANS WILL DO, as you sit there twisting facts just to appease some lop sided political agenda which adds more visas, etc. etc. etc.

What it does is prove that Americans will do those jobs and are doing most of them. You and your pals would have us believe the economy will shut down if we don't keep the gate open.

Steve Camarota of the Washington, D.C.-based Center for Immigration Studies estimates that illegal immigrants cost the federal government $10 billion a year. State and local governments lose even more. Illegals also make up over 1/4 of Federal Prisoners in the US.

And of course that little War on Terror thing going on. The US doesn't want/need a guestworker program of any kind.
