You conveniently forgot to mention that the corruption you refer to is endemic to the culture and is bad or worse when the left is in control. Don't forget that the Sandinistas reneged on every promise they made, as well as looting the country for personal gain, then declaring amnesty for themselves just before turning power over to others. If Ortega does win, it will because he can appeal to enough young voters who are too young to remember how corrupt he and his government were.

Socialism is the world's #1 cause of poverty, misery, and repression.
But that's okay, it's for the 'people'... :-(
i am not disagreeing about endemic corruption at all (where did I? How could I? It is blatantly omnipresent in latin america). Nonetheless, if one party is presently *perceived* as being at least no worse than the reigning party, then that is their chance to get back in power.
As far as ortega becoming electable again, I refer to that as the 'carter temporal amnesia syndrome.' It took about 22 years for carter to be presentable in public as a democrat former office-holder at official democratic party functions after he was defeated, probably for the same reasons.
Thats the problem each says I am not as bad as the other, which seems to be the excuse that both those on the right and left of the political spectrum trot out.
