this stuff doesn't happen because people want a Soviet-supported government, or think the Warsaw Pact countries were nice places to live - it happens because the elected pro-american governments are just as corrupt as anyone and blatantly promote their own interests while letting a fair amount of the population live under onerous labor laws and starvation wages. Of course they will elect someone else, this is the general reason chavez got elected in '98, plus probably any number of other anti-US politicians in the region.
I can promise you many of the folks voting sandinista don't give a fig about China, the US, iran/iraq/cuba/russia/or any of the other foreign issues that are discussed on this board - they are just looking for anyone who will seem to understand or promote their interests (i.e. food on table daily, labor laws that don't amount to a license for employers to treat employees like serfs, etc.) Sometimes they get something useful, and sometimes an absolute nutcase gets in (chavez).

Your platitude is wrong. There was only one post-Sandinista administration (of 3) that was corrupt, and that leader (Aleman, nicknamed the "fatman") has allied with Ortega.
Ortega is a Latin Clinton, he's all about the skirts.

I totally agree with you.
