Minuteman volunteers concerned about the continued flow of illegal immigrants across the border from Mexico gathered Saturday with lawn chairs, binoculars and cell phones for a new monthlong campaign aimed at raising public awareness.
What do you think of the Minutemen? They're patriots performing a valuable service ....75% They're vigilantes who only get in the way .......14% I have a different opinion .......................10% Total Votes: ...................................45,202
A year after their first watch-and-report operation along the border in southeastern Arizona, members of the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps embarked on a much larger effort in this state's busy migrant-smuggling corridor.
"I'm concerned about what's not being done by the government - hasn't been done for ages, apparently," said J. Glenn Sorensen, a retired school administrator now living in Flagstaff.
Sorensen, who was not involved last year, said he thinks the organization has already accomplished part of its purpose, "to draw national attention to an insecure border. I don't think anybody wants to close the border - I certainly don't. Basically, I think they need to be secure."
No one in the group had any illusions about their campaign's effectiveness, since it targets a relatively short section of the border for just a month. However, it comes at a time when Congress is debating changes to federal immigration laws, which have drawn supporters of legitimizing illegal immigrants to demonstrations across the country.
"This is like sticking a finger in the dike," said Ken Raymond, a retired electrical engineer and airplane mechanic from Tucson.

I loved the picture of the Minuteman in a tshirt that said 'Undocumented Border Patrol Agent". That is too funny.
Someone added that,
wish I had thought of it.
Remember... you can vote more than once if you clear your cookies or use a diff browser.
Yeah, me too, Love to have one of those hats, or a Tee Shirt. Would be a good way to support their campaign. Anyone have a link?
Since the government not only refuses to enforce the law but actually rewards illegal aliens (all of whom are criminals), the Minutemen perform an important function.
I think this poll already speaks for its self. Only the Admin. thinks it's a bad idea. God Bless the MM.
NOPE. I'm done with Bush. He's lost ANY credibility at all with me with his 'guest-worker program' crap, just because his sister-in-law and nephews are Hispanic.
And, since the government rewards illegal aliens, one can expect that they will punish the Minutemen.
Count me in with the ex-W fan club. Not that I'd ever vote for the likes of Kerry, but it's a good thing Bush can't run again because he's lost this vote.
I never voted for him--all Republicans are beholden to the money power. Vote Constitution Party in 2008.
And vote for the Democrats? Nope. Ross Perot is the reason GHWB lost. Had he won again, maybe we wouldn't have to be dealing with his son, who is a total idiot.
Why do you think Perot ran in the first place?
Do you really believe the story that he has a personal dislike for GHWB?
The real reason: the money power decided that Bush wasn't doing a good enough job for them, so he was terminated. Perot was put in place to provide plausible deniability.
No American nationalist is going to be allowed to ascend to any level of importance in the Republicrat party. Republicans give amnesty, Democrats give amnesty, Republicans do no enforce the border, Democrats do not enforce the border, do you maybe see a pattern here?
We the People must take ownership of the Presidency--and that means electing someone other than a Republicrat.
The who ? or what ?
2004 the choice George Bush VS George Soros
Thankfully, the better man won !
Sadly, there's truth to that.
Try going to an army navy surplus store. I saw a "border patrol" hat at an Army Barracks recently.
