Many of my friends have read the book and I have learned something interesting in the way people read the book. If someone reads it and tries to remember the facts in the book, they come away extremely frustrated because there is so much to absorb. The book is so full of documentation. But if you read the book as a story and try to get an overview, you come away with a totally different attitude, a lot less frustration. So that is what I tell people when they read it. Don't try to remember the details. Just get the big picture.
One of Jayna's biggest fans among my friends read it the overview way. (And that is when he became her biggest fan). He was livid when he read it! He was passionate about believing what he read and making sure everyone he talked to knew about the book.
On the other hand, his wife read it and tried to absorb all the detail and came away extremely frustrated that she couldn't remember all the detail. This is when I started comparing reading styles with my friends. So, for anyone who has not yet read the book but plans on it, let this be a recommendation for "how" to read the book.
You're right; there is an incredible amount of detail in the book. That was one of the things that made me think the author is honest in her reporting, since it's really hard to make up that much detail and keep it all straight.
However, that wasn't why I said the book was badly written. It appears that instead of just factually reporting what happened and what she learned, the author decided she had to make it "exciting" as well. As a result, the prose reads like a bad Sidney Sheldon knockoff. As I read it, I would constantly burst into laughter at completely inappropriate moments (for the action in the book, I mean) just because some of her sentences were so incredibly awful. Sorry, I don't have the book here so I can't copy out a couple as examples. That was just my opinion as a reader. I did have trouble getting through the book, but it was because I was constantly being distracted by the egregiously bad prose.
Eh?
Eh?
My wife always questioned the rush to execute McVeigh.
Just as an aside, I wish the reporters would get their facts straight, there were 170 victims, not 168 - Carrie Ann Lenz' unborn son was a victim, as was the unborn child of Robin Huff.
Something is rotten in Denmark. I'm sorry about the loss of your friend.
Have you read Stephen Emerson's "America Jihad"? He covered several Islamic "conventions" or gatherings that were held in OKC prior to the Murrah Building. Lots of hate filled material distributed and such. I wish I could find my copy of the book so I could be more specific...
Padilla was in Egypt, according to the DOJ 2004 congressional testimony you can read here.
It is curious that Padilla, a violent thug with no Arab blood, was so highly regarded by the al Qaeda leaders -- could it be because he had already proved his dedication to jihad in OKC?
"Well put. The flight 800 one bugs me and I think the Bush's let Clinton off of the hook because he probably told him he was afraid that making a terrorist attack public would hurt America."
I hope that Kerry spills the beans on flight 800 to try to torpedo Mrs. Clinton's nomination.
Are you joking? Women have the most foul mouths of all.

Well, I am a woman and a lady. I do not use foul language, and I do not like to hear/read it.
He said, "ladies". You said "women". There is a big difference...
%%
Amen!
BTW, I am a woman and a lady.
Are you saying McVeigh had nothing to do with it?
How much higher?
Better late than never, been gone a few days and all heck breaks loose!!
Scrambling to catch up around here...been alot going on!
Not Yet, but I will. He was on O'Reilley tonite, and that congressman was subbing for Bill, (Hakish or something) and he introduced Emerson as #1 terrorist expert. I will buy his book.
Thanks for the ping. I've been reading for 5 hours now, between this thread and the next one about Rohrabacher and Jayna Davis. I try to absorb as much as possible each time I set my focus on this, and probably add 1/10 of 1% to my comprehension of it. But I will persevere.
Endeavor to persevere. (Chief Dan George, in "Little Big Man").
I live in Terre Haute, and was at the McVeigh Execution, and if Zacarias Moussaoui is executed, then I'm on the list to witness that one.
