New White House Tactic: Let Bush Be Bush
reuters & nyt ^ | 4/2/06 | STAFF

George W. Bush is taking time to explain himself, open up to the public in new ways and court the U.S. Congress as he tries to breathe life into a presidency beset by sagging ratings and influence.

With a job-approval rating under 40 percent, Bush, who went to his Crawford ranch for a quiet weekend, has a long way to go. Aides acknowledge it will take a while to rebuild his image, and much will depend on the outcome of the Iraq war.

White House staffers, who have long limited the president's appearances to speeches and photo opportunities with little contact with regular people, are now inclined to let Bush be Bush.

He is talking at length. His March 21 news conference lasted nearly an hour. A Freedom House speech with questions from the audience in Washington on Wednesday went on for an hour and a half.

Bush even took questions from gray-haired retirees at a senior citizens' home recently and they asked some tough ones. More such sessions are planned.

``The president enjoys the open question-and-answer formats,'' White House spokesman Scott McClellan said. ``The more we can put him in settings where people can get a better sense of his thinking and his beliefs, the better.'' SNIP

Democrats are not impressed by the more-open Bush. ``The president can give all the speeches he wants but nothing will change the fact that his Iraq policy is wrong,'' said Senate Democratic leader Harry Reid of Nevada.

I've seen tee shirts like the one on the first pic on the left being worn by hispanic kids in the Hsouton areas for about a year or so.

They have good reason to fear them.

If the President continues his slide...continues advancing hopelessly divisive policies that are essentially preaching lawlessness and globalism instead of adhering to his oath to this nation....he literally could give the Demonrats a veto-proof majority....one that could also impeach him with impunity, convict him, and then serially keep impeaching his Vice President, and so on.

If RMan wants to debate with me, let him do so himself.

I don't think he needs you to run interference for him.

The oath of office requires the President to protect America from invasion. Bush is in violation of his oath of office.

Sure, it's the invasion of the lettuce pickers. Every time an immigrant mows your lawn, a piece of American sovereignty dies. /sarc

Would you care to name the 16 senate seats we would have to loose in order for that to happen.

You're right about CFR, and you're telling a lie about his doing 'nothing' about illegals.

And I will NOT debate the issue with people who don't care about the truth. Your dishonesty brings real discussion of the issues into the gutter.

Let me list a few conservative things, if you're so dense that you have missed them (of course since you have lied by saying he has done 'nothing' about illegals, who knows if you can be trusted to tell the truth about anything?)

-He is the most openly pro-life President we have ever had, and is the first to take steps away from the culture of death in America.

-He has appointed two SC justices FAR more conservative than Reagan did.

-He has stood for American sovereignty in not signing Kyoto or the World Court.

- He has consistently lowered taxes

-He has created a pro-business environment that has revitalized the recession that he inherited.

-He stands for personal responsiblity and morality in all things.

-He is honest, and has brought honor and dignity back to Washington.

If you have missed all these things (by no means a comprehensive list), then it is you who are NO conservative.

OH..........BIG one I missed. HE REBUILT THE MILITARY AFTER CLINTON RAPED IT.

Military folks and families LOVE their Commander in Chief..........because he is a pro-military, pro-American CONSERVATIVE.

You missed that one too??

In all the years I've been here that was one of the most weak and ineffectual responses I've ever had. It sounded nice though.

Sounds more like wishful thinking from you; than reality or facts. The fact is most people make their decisions based on money. On the economy. It's how they vote. And the President, in re the Economy, is excellent.

ROFLOL! Why am I not surprised that a list of conservative actions wouldn't impress you?

You're not a conservative. I am.

Bye, nick. You're not cool. Never have been.......probably never will be. :)

(btw, if I WERE a one-issue person like you are, then saving the life of the unborn would be THE issue. Apparently you don't even care about it. Telling......)

There objective is to take over both the South and North American continents and get rid of the Europeans, etc.

Someone posted that link the other day and it was my first awareness of the group. Anahuac got my attention....

And you don't see President Bush as a self-made man?

The guy got elected president of the United States. That's an amazing thing. Could he have without his family though? Who can say?

Self-made moneywise? If not for the stadium deal I'd say maybe. A deal paid for by taxpayers by the way.

As I've posted on FR before "because of what Bush did after 9/11 he will be marked for death until his final days". That's a lot to give up. And we all owe him for that. But that does not mean that when we don't like what he has or has not done we can't say anything.

I picked it as it seemed the one sentence which characterised the main point of the post, i. e. the topic sentence. I could have quoted the whole post, but didn't see the point.

"Only in a hallucinogenic state could one be both calling for impeachment of this President and calling himself a conservative."

At this point, one would have to be hallucinogenic and/or delusional to consider Bush a conservative. He's a progressive.

I've already listed areas in which is is most certainly conservative.

If you don't know what they are, then it is YOU who are not conservative.

(btw, I don't consider those who use hallucinogens conservatives. Sorry if I offended you).
