Expect nothing but exploitation and sensationalism from Geraldo.

I hear you...that is certainly within the realm of possibility.

Mary's lawyer was on TV the other day and seemed to hint very strongly that the children were not being abused and that neither was Mary. He said something like: "but there are different kinds of abuse. emotional abuse, verbal abuse".

Will any details come out tomorrow at the hearing?

Ewwww. I hadn't read that transcript. Quite the prosecutor is Nancy Grace. I wonder if that's the sort of tactic she used in the courtroom to present for juries. Has she found a church of Christ preacher to interview for her show? I can think of quite a few who would be excellent interviewees. And I can think of some very articulate, educated women who would do well.

I wonder if he found out something or she told him something she had done?

I heard that too. I doubt, by the way this case is being handled, that it's physical abuse.

they only need to show cause to bring her to trial for this crime. she's already confessed to it. i'd assume that's really all they'd need to bring out tomorrow.

While you (and others) have strong feelings that abuse of one kind or another will be at the root of this tragedy, I am trying to keep an open mind so that I can better understand what is presented in the formal trial process. In saying this, I am not faulting you but I do try to avoid the Geraldo/Greta sleaze machine in these matters because little, if any, value is added to my life by dwelling on the dark side of human nature. YMMV...

There is no just reason for murder.

And, before we take away the man's lifelong reputation as well as having to lose his life, we need to investigate the one doing the murder.

He was not killing anyone. So, we have to wait and see. Maybe, she just wanted out of the marriage. It has happened many times before and she knew she would probably not get a divorce.

Did you see my theory in post #40? Is it unreasonable?

I remember that you are from TN and I certainly agree that any speculation be done in a clinical and respectful manner. I can imagine the whole state is sadden by this incident.

The prosecutor is going to present one witness, according to Farese, and he is not going to present any - at least, this was as of a couple of days ago.

Normally, the one pros witness is the LEO who apprehended the suspected perp and/or took the suspect's statement or confession. They waive "hearsay" rules and allow the officer to state under oath what he was told or his report of the events, for the record and not for the truth of the 3rd party statements.

In this case, it might be the Selmer PD officers who went to AL to get Mary and wrote out the arrest warrant in TN, since two different states are involved.

I'm overwhelmed by the ignorance of a Baptist minister.

And, here I defend the Baptist's as wonderful people even though I feel they do not honor the full instructions given. Why do they ignore the times we are told to be baptised for the remission of sins?

This is happening in my backyard (I live twelve miles from the church). My relatives go to church there and the many of the people that work in the law office of Farese are clients. No matter what the plea, Mary has one of the best lawyer combinations in the country. My bet right now is that she will get more than favorable terms considering who is defending her. I hear a lot of gossip but no facts so far. Just a sad thing all the way around.

Very true but I did feel he was a better reporter than that. That was pure laziness and not worthy of a man with a TV show on Fox.

The saddest part is that many choose the permanent solution to temporary problems.

Suicide, murder in this case, abortion.

There are alternatives that get overlooked during times of stress.

Would that we all reach out to someone who appears to need an extra hug.

Media circus with him as the ringleader! I just love it when defense attorneys do this. On every show they can possibly appear on, then scream "media circus".....lol

If the judge puts a gag order on the participants, expect to see Gloria Allred taking over as the trained seal. It's all so predictable...

One of the church members was describing Matthew Winkler personally, and said that he had so much charisma.

Did you ever play the game "Gossip" as a kid, where everyone sits in a big circle and someone begins the game by whispering to the person next to them a sentence that has been written on a piece of paper? That person whispers to the person next to them, and so on around the circle until it comes to the last person who says out loud what they were told. The person who started the game then reads the sentence written on the piece of paper to see how much the information changed in the process.

That's the way the MSM gathers information - they just don't check it with the original piece of paper that contains the actual facts. Same game, but they call it "Journalism" instead of "Gossip". ;-)
