A Little Bit of "Horsey Relief"

TO GET YOU THROUGH THE DAY!!!

The Arabian

Somewhere in the inhospitable deserts of the Middle East, centuries ago, a breed of horse came into being that would influence the equine world beyond all imagination. In the sweet grass oasis along the Euphrates and Tigris Rivers in the countries that are now known as Syria, Iraq and Iran, and in other parts of the Arabia peninsula, this hearty horse developed and would soon be known as the Arabian horse. Historically the Arabian has maintained a reputation as the  horse of beauty, intelligence, courage, endurance, and romance. When imported to England, the Arabian became the progenitor of the Thoroughbred. In Russia, the blood of the Arabian horse contributed largely to the development of the Orloff Trotter. In France, the animal helped make the famous Percheron. And in America, again it was the Arabian horse, which became the progenitor of the Morgan and through the English Thoroughbred, to make the Trotter. A beautiful, delicate head characterizes the Arabian, often with a "dished" or concave profile below large, prominent eyes; a high-set, arched neck, a naturally high tail carriage, and the back is short and straight.

Newest note from Ev, and apparently he will be home a bit sooner than I thought...he leaves there in 7 days, so he'll be here in maybe 8 or so, depending on connecting flights, delays, etc.

"Hey mom, what's new-i'm getting pretty excited to get up & out of here. While us medics are all taking turns on leave, the two remaining guys (me & oody right now) have to work 12 on 12 off every day. Kinda sucks, but there's really no other way. So as you can imagine, i'm getting pretty sick of wearing this uniform every day.Today we went out & reconend a site to land a blackhawk. On saturday we're supposed to be doing an air mission drill complete with casualties & dustoff medevac. It'll prolly be fun, i've done it a couple of times before but never in the desert.. i can imagine it will get pretty sandy... It's getting warmer here but still not TOO hot. at the hottest it's hit 100 degrees in the sun, maybe the lower 90s in the shade. It still doesn't compare to the perpetual hell that is mississippi.I would go on longer about what's new, but of course, there really isn't anything.. so, so long, only 7 days left- see you soon- Evan"

Note to any Mississippians who are reading this: he does not have anything agianst your fair state, just the weather, in particular, the heat & humidity (& hurricane!) he endured there last fall.:)

Yay!!!! My favorite breed of horse. They are just beautiful when they run. My favorite book growing up was "The Black Stallion" which was about an Arabian horse.

You need to read the whole series by Walter Farley. I think I liked "The Island Stallion" as well as "The Black Stallion". He wrote wonderful tales of horses. I know you'd love them! Maybe you can find them in a used book store...or on wonderful eBay! LOL!
