France's no-work ethic
The Washington Times ^ | 3-28-06 | Lawrence Kudlow

Why is it that so many French people would rather riot than work? For nearly a fortnight, French students repeatedly have taken to the streets in protest of a modest labor reform proposed by Prime Minister Dominique de Villepin. It seems that Mr. de Villepin had the audacity to suggest that companies hiring workers under the age of 26 have the ability to fire those workers in the first two years of employment. Mr. de Villepin's far-from-Draconian reform is a reaction to the country's government-planned entitlement state, overregulated labor laws and sky-high jobless rate.

"France's public government sector, for instance, accounts for more than 50 percent of GDP. In other words, private business in France is in the minority. "

Along with the 68% tax rate, this is why they're so rude and mad all the time. They just don't realize it.

I've got a solution to our immigration problem and France's problem finding people who will do work. One stone.

Until we voted in the Conservatives up here in January, we we're starting to resemble something a little too much like Franch, especially when it comes to government sector. Not sure about the States, but both our countries should be using France as a bad example and do the opposite. Crap country France is.

Good idea. The penalty for illegal entry will henceforth be exile to France.

Congratulations, AC. I had been working on a project in the Toronto area since September and Canada was a frightening place. Multiculturalism is rampant, leaving no core Canadian culture anymore. Your courage at a governmental change in January gives me hope for a stronger Canada.

Thanks all the same, but it's over for Toronto. It will sink further and further into a multi-cultural third world cesspool. Like Rumsfeld said about old Europe and new Europe, there is now an old Canada and a new Canada, with new Canada starting at the prairies.

Fox News reported that over a million French were in that protest today all over France. I guess it took the French to show up the Meixcans with their little 500,000 person protest last weekend. LOL!!

What incentive is there to work when the government takes over half of what your earn? Probably make more on the dole. Socialism -- the gift that keeps on giving.

I think they were all looking for their first shower this year from the water cannons--and it was government sponsored, too.

French workers, unions and communism are a natural combination. They demand good wages, wine breaks, two- hour lunch breaks and a month paid vacation plus all national and religious holidays. You can't produce much like that.
