Someone I worked with in the late 1980's had a fiance with family in Ireland who couldn't even visit without the proper visa, and they had to wait years. (or so she told me)

This is a slap in the face to the millions upon millions of people who immigrated here legally (like my parents). What gives certain people the right to push ahead in line, and have an army of obsequious politicians defend their "right" to do it?
