I guess it would require too careful a reading of my post to see that I said nothing about being "rich." The term I used was "relatively well-to-do," and I even italicised the word "relatively" for emphasis. In this case, we're talking relative to the "natives" I referred to, and well-to-do relative to them wouldn't mean "rich."

Perhaps it is so in a relatively well off society. I have a hunch, however, that sexual (and other) deviancy tends to increase in proportion to a society's prosperity. Sort of along the lines of the cliche' "idle hands are the devil's workshop."

Yes. There are lesbian couples who are raising children in every financial bracket, rich, middle-income, and poor. But I agree with you that simpler societies tend not to tolerate such things. They don't have the ACLU in places where subsistence is the principal issue in life.
