You can add NBC newsman Lester Holt to that list.

Thank you for a great and informative post. I knew some of them were members of the CoC, but not nearly as many as you identified.

Excellent list. Some good people on there! Hard to picture Janis Joplin and Matthew's grandfather Wendell Winkler being from the same hometown AND the same church, isn't it? Port Arthur, TX. "Poat Aurteur" to Golden Triangleans.

Note to whoever prints up the list: It's Bill Banowsky, with a *y* at the end, not *i*. He was the former president of my alma mater, Univ of OK, as well as of Pepperdine U.

Thanks for that list in #722.
I plan to keep it to show my kids and our youth group. I had wondered about Montgomery Gentry because of their song "My Town" and their mention of the church of Christ.

Hubby says that Grover Cleveland was also c of C. (I think he's the one. I'll doublecheck.)

It wasn't Cleveland. He was Presbyterian from what I can find.

My biggest problem with this list is that it claims that Alexander Campbell founded the church of Christ, which is not the case. The church was founded by Christ.

I like your list too. I don't think Pat Boone counts himself a member of the church of Christ anymore. He left for a more charasmatic experience. His brother Nick is still around though. I'm not sure Amy Grant is a member anymore either. When she divorced Gary and married Vince, she said some things that led me to believe she had left the church. Her family, particulary her grandfather A.M. Burton, was very generous to the churches of Christ and Lipscomb during his lifetime and in his will.

Kenny Perry's wife went to Lipscomb. He gives 5% of all of his earnings to Lipscomb. Marty Roe went to Lipscomb too.

William Lee Golden of the Oak Ridge Boys was a church of Christer. Or so I've been told.
