Slain Minister's Wife to Be Charged With Murder Friday, March 24, 2006 MEMPHIS, Tenn. The wife of a Tennessee pastor found shot dead in his house Wednesday will face first-degree murder charges, authorities announced Friday.
Mary Winklerwas found Thursday night with the couple's three daughters in Orange Beach, Ala., about 400 miles south of their home in Selmer.
Investigators with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation said she was interviewed during the night and the charges were being prepared.
"We've interviewed her and she was cooperative," said Jennifer Johnson of the TBI, adding that once a warrant with the charges was drawn up, extradition proceedings would begin to have her returned to Tennessee.
Matthew Winkler was found shot to death in the bedroom of his parsonage Wednesday by church members who began searching for him after he failed to show up at an evening event at Selmer's Church of Christ.
Police said there were no signs of forced entry, but Winkler's wife and children Breanna, 1; Mary Alice, 6; and Patricia, 8 were gone.

ah, i get it tenn2005, when you can't speak to an issue, you make a personal attack...is that how you were programmed to respond to those who challenge you?!...lol
Some Famous Members of the church of Christ:
If you were to read my post #687, you would see that I do not think the CoC to which Winkler belongs is a cult. May have a few practices with which I disagree, but i don't wee where that particular group could be considered a cult.
Well, not tenn2005, but I'll give it a stab anyway. First, I'm not aware of any church this day that will flat stay that "dancing" is a sin, and you will go to hell if you "dance". And I'm not aware of what "type of dancing" you do...so it is hard to respond to that point. However the position of most religious groups regarding dancing is in regards to the type of "slow" dancing where a man's body is rubbing close to or against a woman's body. This activity can and most usually results in one or both becoming aroused and that can lead to impure thoughts or impure actions. (ie...sex) Now if the man and woman are married..then fine, there is no problem. But if they are not married...it just opens the door for improper activity. The real issue is...is this an activity in which a Christian should engage? And...if it can lead to impure thoughts or actions...should a Christian dance? I think that to be safe...the answer to both is no.
"There is no reason any church should take a position on dancingI have no knowledge of the CoC banning dancing."
We do incoureage our young people to avoid putting themselves in situations, dancing or otherwise, which might lead to immoral conduct.
"May have a few practices with which I disagree, but i don't wee where that particular group could be considered a cult."
I appreciate your candor and you have every right to disagree.
You can add NBC newsman Lester Holt to that list.
Thank you for a great and informative post. I knew some of them were members of the CoC, but not nearly as many as you identified.
tenn2005, who wrote: "Members of churches do pay taxes. Churches do not operate at a profit. The minister pays taxes as do all other enployees of the church. The balance of the money is usually given away to people like you."
...money given away to people like me??...i happen to pay a great deal of money in taxes...and as far as your congregation paying personal taxes, that's the law...but i shouldn't have to support your cult, or any other church for that matter...i don't care if it's none profit or not, it's your members responsibilty to pay for utilities, etc, and so your church should pay property taxes, i don't need to be subsidizing you
...btw, is this not-for-profit??: "Mormon Church to Spend One Billion Dollars on a Mall in SLC"..."An organization that spends 15-20 times more on real estate to develop malls than on helping the poor is, by any definition, a corporation, not a religion. An average American Mormon gives thousands of dollars in tithing, yet only a few dollars of that donation is for the poor."...do a search, there's plenty of information on this out there
I have never seen anyone having sex on a dance floor. Full-body contact slow dancing is not 'dancing'. West Coast Swing, Hustle, Nightclub two-step, country 2-step, and ballroom and latin styles are real dancing.
Passing impure thoughts are no sins. If it goes beyond that to the point of dwelling on them or trying to see how one might act on them' is.
Fellow...you do nothing to support my church or any other church for that matter. Just because a church is exempt from ad valorem taxes doesn't mean you support it financially. The government does not give any tax dollars to churches. Your statement is just absurd and shows your ignorance. My church is supported by the members of that body that contribute their money. No tax dollars are involved. You support nothing.
Personally, I don't think he would be apposed to the hokie-pokie, but that's just me.
Well, that is the point. Hey, I did not say dancing was a sin. And again, I wasn't referencing the dancing you listed. I'm church of Christ. My daughters were in ballet, tap, and jazz dancing. No big deal. But since slow close cheek to cheek dancing is called "dancing" I answered. The issue is engaging in activity that can lead to impure action...and the suggestion is to avoid such activity. It's called "playing it safe and not sorry".
There you go again.
You don't support my "cult" unless you contribute to the CoC. We receive no government support, nor do we want any. I would guess that you would also object to any organization being tax exempt that you do not profit from personally. I don't like my taxes going to support abortion but I still obey the law.
yukong,
i didn't think i would have to spell this out for anyone, but i guess i do...i most certainly i DO pay higher taxes by the mere fact that your church (and other churches) don't pay property taxes...if churches paid property taxes like individuals and companies do on their real estate, then obviously the property taxes for everyone else could be lowered...so stop freeloading on me, and pay your own way
...and as i previously posted, how is that the mormon church has $1 biilion to buy shopping malls...is that non-profit organization too??...and before you try and tell me that the shopping mall will pay property taxes, well of course it will, BUT don't tell me that they will not benefit unfairly with creative accounting back to the church somehow
I truly feel sorry for you. I had a very close friend who was an athiest. He was one of the best friends that I have ever had. He called me one day and asked that I prey for him. I thought that a very strange request from an athiest until I learned two days later that he had commited suicide. I prey for much better for you.
geez tenn2005,
you don't understand the property tax pool of money either, do you??...YOUR CHURCH IS BEING SUBSIDIZED by way of a property tax exemption!...this isn't complicated stuff you know
No, your ignorance in making accuations which you can't prove make you exactly what I said you are. Ask a logical question or make a logical observation and I will think otherwise of you.
