Slain Minister's Wife to Be Charged With Murder Friday, March 24, 2006 MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The wife of a Tennessee pastor found shot dead in his house Wednesday will face first-degree murder charges, authorities announced Friday.

Mary Winklerwas found Thursday night with the couple's three daughters in Orange Beach, Ala., about 400 miles south of their home in Selmer.

Investigators with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation said she was interviewed during the night and the charges were being prepared.

"We've interviewed her and she was cooperative," said Jennifer Johnson of the TBI, adding that once a warrant with the charges was drawn up, extradition proceedings would begin to have her returned to Tennessee.

Matthew Winkler was found shot to death in the bedroom of his parsonage Wednesday by church members who began searching for him after he failed to show up at an evening event at Selmer's Church of Christ.

Police said there were no signs of forced entry, but Winkler's wife and children — Breanna, 1; Mary Alice, 6; and Patricia, 8 — were gone.

Well of course she was crazy. Crazy with hatred for her husband. That doesn't excuse the act, though.

Using your logic, I can do whatever I want and claim I 'wasn't right in head' or any number of excuses.

You seem very naive.

Now that obviously depends on when you think she 'justified' her actions, doesn't it.

Surely there is some 'justification' going on when you decide to pull the trigger and put a bullet into somebody's back.

Oh, I forget. "It's not my fault!" "He *made* me do it!"

Now I am convinced, you are a troll. I think you should take the advice someone gave a few posts back, because otherwise, you won't be allowed to badger people here much longer.

I agree with you 100%. And yes, you did not say "I".

It's just the direction this post took very quickly. It's frustrating because the "I'll bet he was molesting her children" came up rather quickly and many seemed to run with it. But it simply doesn't make sense. If my kid were being molested and I shot the guy in the back (and I would) I wouldn't pack up my kids and hide from the police.

I would call the police, stay there until they arrived and said: "YEA! I SHOT THAT SOB IN THE BACK! HE WAS MOLLESTING MY KID! ARREST ME!"

This husband-killer is a product of her environment (CoC), IMO.

I wonder if I should get rid of my guns? Well, I guess I would just use a different weapon to kill my husband!

I have been to many (church of Christ) churches over the past 26 years, and I haven't personally known even one woman who has killed her husband. Eleven of those years were in Tennessee, so maybe it's just an isolated incident rather than a condemnation of "all" or "many" CoC.

I am quite amazed at the attacks on this church and their beliefs, because of the actions of this woman.

Churches are full of sinners, so if you are looking for perfection, you certainly won't find it here on earth.

I am sorry for your negative experiences with judgmental "Christians." I have known many like what you describe but I think it is unfair to attribute that attitude to an entire church.

I can assure you there are many members of the CoC that are warm, loving and compassionate people with a love for God and for the lost. Please don't judge all because of the actions of a few.

God Bless

Her charge shows premediated.

It's unusual for a suspect to be charged this quickly with 1st degree unless their is overwhelming evidence to prove premeditation or she has admitted to it.

We'll know much more once the trial begins and evidence comes out.

Hardly. I didn't say she wasn't guilty or had the right to kill. I just said it's more likely the reason she killed her husband is because she's nuts, not her CoC upbringing as you assert.

And using your logic, she can do whatever she wants because she can blame the CoC. Doesn't work that way, does it?

I'm saying that when push came to shove she put a bullet in her husband's back rather than follow the teachings of Scripture.

How is that the fault of the CoC? Unless you are saying that CoC members are supposed to be sinless?

I have very clearly said several times that the husband-killer's behavior is consistent with what I have observed at the CoCs that I have attended.

So youre an EX church of christ goer? Did they offend you by telling you you should be baptized? Or that you had to stop (insert addiction here), to be a member? Or that you couldn't invite Marilyn Manson to perform on stage? What was it exactly?

I've been to CoC's that have the most wonderful, caring, Christ-committed people full of salt, light and joy.

I've also been to CoC's that are full of stuck-up snobs and self-righteous blowhards.

Neither example gives any insight into the mindset of this woman.

Especially since the CoC's are completely unaffiliated, unlike most other denominations!

How did they know to start searching for him? This sounds like one of those cult churches or something. Never states why she killed him though. Wonder what brought her over the edge?

Exactly! As an excop, I usually try to wait until the FACTS come out, which many times isn't until the trial!

As for your description of church goers (CoC), I bet that's the same with any denomination. ;o)

IT isn't the number of kids you have it is that you have any at all. It is a proven medical condition in some women that is more than feeling blue. What Andrea did was wrong but check out her history of depression and being treated and institutionalized. It is remarkable that any doctor let her go. It is also remarkable that her husband allowed her to be alone with those children even for the one hour that she was allowed. The woman was clearly sick. Like I said the history is remarkable. I think the system, the doctors, her family, and husband all failed at some point in her journey to murder. Are they to blame in any way? No. It is 100% Andrea's fault. I just don't want post partum depression to be dismissed as an excuse. Not always true. Just because you have never experienced it or know anyone to suffer from a real medical depression doesn't mean it isn't real and hell.

Well, Ziggy, when the PASTOR doesn't show up for the service, normally one would suspect something was wrong. Not sure how this makes them a cult.
