Slain Minister's Wife to Be Charged With Murder Friday, March 24, 2006 MEMPHIS, Tenn. The wife of a Tennessee pastor found shot dead in his house Wednesday will face first-degree murder charges, authorities announced Friday.
Mary Winklerwas found Thursday night with the couple's three daughters in Orange Beach, Ala., about 400 miles south of their home in Selmer.
Investigators with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation said she was interviewed during the night and the charges were being prepared.
"We've interviewed her and she was cooperative," said Jennifer Johnson of the TBI, adding that once a warrant with the charges was drawn up, extradition proceedings would begin to have her returned to Tennessee.
Matthew Winkler was found shot to death in the bedroom of his parsonage Wednesday by church members who began searching for him after he failed to show up at an evening event at Selmer's Church of Christ.
Police said there were no signs of forced entry, but Winkler's wife and children Breanna, 1; Mary Alice, 6; and Patricia, 8 were gone.

According to this article - http://www.guardian.co.uk/worldlatest/story/0,,-5708939,00.html - she rented the condo but never used it.
Two possibilities, she rented the condo as a safe house after the murder but thought better of it since it could be traced to her name.
She rented the condo as an excuse to keep people from looking for her and the kids or finding his body. We're on vacation so we won't be around John List type move.
It sells.
OTOH, If a man cheats on his wife and she kills him he's a b*****d. If the woman cheats on her husband and he kills her.... he's still a b*****d, why?
"And just a note to those calling this church a cult: I've worshipped at this congregation and know several people who are members. These people are NOT a cult. I would say they are a typical rural southern Church of Christ. Which means fairly conservative and traditional (perhaps offensively "traditional" to some liberal types), but not controlling/cultish. They are good people who try to do what is right."
Oh yeah, reminds me of another one.
Father and step-mom attend the same CoC as one son/wife/kids. No speaking between the step-mom and the son/wife/kids (son's wife drove it mostly, IMO). Dad dies suddenly and the church has prayer FOR THE MAN'S CHILDREN, THEIR SPOUSES & THE GRANDCHILDREN! WIFE ISN'T EVEN MENTIONED AND SHE WAS A MEMBER!
The funeral was the same way. Widow ignored while children/spouses/grandkids are 'comforted' by 'the church'.
I was there and think I was the only one who noticed anything unusual about it. The congregation was apparently totally clueless.
Wierdest thing I ever saw.
So this particular woman is the 'product' of the coC, while the hundreds of thousands of coC wives who have NOT killed their husbands must be -- what, statistical outliers, I guess?
She rented the condo in anticipation of a family vacation, and it coincided with the actual murder.
She might have figured that since the kids were told they were going on vacation, she'd just follow thru with that.
I can't imagine what happened in that house??? Don't misunderstand me...I'm not an advocate of killing husbands.
sw
"They are not all that way."
I hope not.
That's why I said, "Not an indictment of them all, folks, just my experiences w/ the CoC."
And Mr. Winkler, apparently.
"So this particular woman is the 'product' of the CoC, while the hundreds of thousands of coC wives who have NOT killed their husbands must be -- what, statistical outliers, I guess?"
Missed the point.
She is the product of an environment that teaches people to justify their own actions as being righteous while condemning others. That is the root of it, IMO.
It's not necessarily a message that any fool can see, but some of them unconsciously absorb it better than others.
How do you know this? She isn't fighting extradition.
It would be nice to have at least a fact or two to back up your condemnation of an entire church.
Do any of you "blame the guy first" people remember Pamela Smart?
Sometimes women are b!tches.
The victim-offender relationship
differed substantially between female
and male murderers. Of the 60,000
murders committed by women between
1976 and 1997 just over 60% were
against an intimate or family member;
among the 400,000 murders committed
by men over the same period, 20%
were against family members or
intimates.

While true that men commit murder more often, women, by over 40%, choose a family member of intimate when murdering. We have a double standard based on false information. Men tend to kill strangers, women tend to kill those they know.
As a side note, her arrest photo has been released. Her face shows no indication of having received a beating. She has not been taken to a hospital in any news report I've seen. If she had been beat she would have been transfered to a hospital for medical treatment as per law enforcement rules.
We can now through out the speculation that she murdered her spouse because she was being beat. Don't you think?
Who needs the MSM? He's already been demonised on this thread repeatedly.
That was the point of the post, I believe. He responded to a post that was just as unbalanced, on the other direction.
He's already an adulterer, wife beater, and child rapist, and that's just from Freepers on this thread!
Not necessarily. If I was going to beat my wife, I might very well want to avoid bruising her in visible areas, i.e., nothing to stop me from punching her in the gut or kidneys instead. Her lack of a black eye does not mean she hasn't been physically abused.
On the other hand, I think this rush to condemn the victim is pretty bad. For all we know, she had a chemical imbalance and killed the guy for no rational reason.
I live in a place called "reality". Please come back, Mr. Frazier. We can chat then ...

That scenario makes the least bit of sense, let me explain why.
She's been charged with premeditated murder. Therefore she's either admitted to planning the crime or the forensic evidence exists to prove, beyond a reasonable doubt, she planned the murder. Rarely do people plan a vacation if they plan on killing their spouse; except when it can be used to their advantage.
"we were on vacation and my spouse dissapeared" being the advantage a planned family vacation would have. If the condo was for the family the murder most likely would have happened there.
I think he just didn't put the toilet seat back down one too many times. My wife tells me all the time how annoying that is. Sounds like he got what's comin'!
