Olbermann Calls Barbara Bush "Worst Person in the World"
Newsbusters ^ | 3-24-2006 | Brad Wilmouth

Posted on 03/24/2006 8:04:54 AM PST by rcocean

On his Countdown show Thursday night, MSNBC's Keith Olbermann devoted part of his "Worst Person in the World" segment to attacking former First Lady Barbara Bush over a donation she made to the Bush-Clinton Katrina Fund, a donation she required be used to buy education software for Houston schools from her son Neil's software company. Olbermann snapped that if you "make the charity give the donation to your son, it's not a damned donation anymore!" However, the Countdown host neglected to mention that the Bush family had also given other donations without any requirement as to how the money should be spent.

"A friend of mine works at MSNBC. She told me that Keith and his production team have decided the only way to raise his ratings is to become as loud and outrageous as possible.

He is being an ass - in order to generate buzz.

NOT WORKING"

By the "tone" of your post, does this mean that you think there is no redeeming value in Keith's nightly sign-off incremental posting of the "Number of days since Bush declared 'Misson Accomplished'", and the up-to-the-SECOND of taping, US casualty count so far in Iraq???

(...OK...sarcasm off thingee goes in this spot...)

And to think this is the same network that fired Savage.

"He is being an ass - in order to generate buzz.

This totally explains what is wrong with the MSM. It is ignorance:

"buzz" is obtained with bees, or batteries, or a generator. By being an "ass", the MSM produces only what an ass produces.

Kaplan doing elsewhere what he did to CNN. Anyone check CNN's rating lately?

This NewsBusters a breath of fresh air, just as the master of the EIB comes on the air. My trusty radio tuned in. Here in Canada,we cannot get Olberman-I think.

The cartoon is very well done on Mike Wallace. How to make a telling hit, without an immense distortion of the subjects, (Wallace and ol' Lar) facial features. Not that there is anything against cartoon caricatures.

If one is not an admirer of the august and elder statesman like Walter, see the post on him. Run just prior to the Olberman segment. Walter is still beating up on the long deceased Joe McCarthy. Iraq is Vietnam, says Walter. Woodward and Bernstein, with Walter Cronkite, have found the secret of eternal youth. LOL

"This is television business"

If so, then why is Olbermann still on the air?

He gets a fraction of FOX's audience. He gets less viewers than Chris Matthews. In total viewers, he is in last place at 8PM.

Make no mistake, KO is on the air because Kaplan and some MSNBC execs want him on TV. From a purely business standpoint, he should have been fired years ago.

He may have only 30 viewers, but sadly my Southern Baptist pastor is one of them.

"I enjoy his Countdown, and I LEARN from his show."

Go figure!!!

Well, I work for the Nielsen ratings and we always skew the numbers upward, ;)

I never understood this. When MSNBC picked him up what made them think "ESPN commentator" was a sufficient résumé for political news commentator? Not that he's any good at it...

Who? I watched that guy for fives minutes once and learned more about his views than I did the news. In fact, he was so self-absorbed I never even figured out what the news item he was discussing was!

Ratings, ratings, ratings...and he's surfing down there with the bottom-feeders.

I believe Rebecca Lobo plays for the WNBA team New York Liberty (which I always thought had a cool logo depicting the Statue of Liberty). I think she also won a womens' NCAA basketball championship with the UCONN Lady Huskies, one of the most dominant women's collegiate basketball teams.
