And as usual, we will be reminded by Russert that "we didn't find WMD."

General Casey: "...I believe those [poll] numbers come from perceptions..."

[True, but in politics (and MSM) perception is reality. Whatever perception they can create becomes their reality. Remember how Dan Rather perceived those faxed [faux] documents to be real?]

There is no news out of Iraq. In spite of all the claims of impending civil war, we are losing and so forth and so on, the actual news is zilch.

No doubt this explains the Sunday Shows being preoccupied with Iraq. It is about time to declare it a failure seems to be the major theme. Murtha, Hagel and all the naysayers seem convinced we are defeated.

To prove the point, since there is no news, we now create the news with polls. Imagine, 70% of Americans believe there will be a civil war in Iraq. How these Americans know this seems closely related to how the mainstream media knows we are defeated. That is, no basis for either other than pundit opinion.

Study after study in economics, poliitics and all the human sciences show that pundits are only slight better than chance in predicting outcomes. Never mind, hire them on CBS, NBC, ABC and Fox to tell us what is what.

No news today. That is the real message this Sunday.

Another side of Senator Dick Durbin (Durbin supported military action against Iraq under Clinton)

Dick Durbin Press Release ^ | December 17, 1998 | Dick Durbin
For Immediate Release Contact: Melissa Merz (202) 224-7028 December 17, 1998 DURBIN STATEMENT ON MILITARY ACTION AGAINST IRAQ I fully support President Clinton and our national security team's decision to take swift action against Saddam Hussein. The attack against this dictator should come as no surprise. The record clearly shows that he has harassed American and United Nations inspectors, ordered the destruction of important documents in anticipation of inspections and hampered the ability of inspectors to carry out their mission. His defiant protection of his weapons of mass destruction cannot go unanswered. The mission has bipartisan support, including U.S. Sen....

Murtha predicts that the Dems will retake control of the House in 06. Says Bush is blaming the military for the mistakes in Iraq. Murtha's plan: redeployment of troops. Expects Bush to 'announce' [not necessarily fulfill] large troop withdrawals from Iraq just prior to the election. Murtha admits that he would recommend a redeployment, but no under a timetable. [So how does that differ from the current policy, John?] Doesn't know enough about the issue (wiretapping) to say whether the President should be censured.

Dick Durbin this morning: "Chris, 96 senators have not been briefed on this program. Only 8 members of the senate know about it."

This dork apparently doesn't know how many senators are in the senate.

I usually don't watch Sunday Morning shows but I wanted to catch Face the Nation with the VP. I like Bob Schieffer and so far he's doing a great interview. The VP is ready and he's sharp.
