Contrary to what most pundits think, I believe Bush's LOW polls can actually be a positive for conservative Republicans running in the mid-term congressional elections in '06. Anyone want to hear my theory? It may be the occasion for a conservative renewal!!

Yes, I agree. The more Pubbies running for office, can unleash themselves from Bush as a public perception, the more those in tough races might benefit. In that sense, the UAE port thingie, disgusting in so many ways, on so many levels, might end up being a net plus for Pubbies in 2006. Wheels within wheels.

The problem is the party itself; the corrupt, lazy, power-mad, big-spending GOP needs to go the way of the Whigs. Congress's approval went up when they openly defied Dubya on the ports deal. You may be on to something, but the renewal will come at the cost of a relatively impotent Republican president through 2008.
