Yes, I agree. The more Pubbies running for office, can unleash themselves from Bush as a public perception, the more those in tough races might benefit. In that sense, the UAE port thingie, disgusting in so many ways, on so many levels, might end up being a net plus for Pubbies in 2006. Wheels within wheels.

Yes. The fact is that George Bush is NOT,and never has been, a true conservative. He's been a reckless spender, hasn't vetoed a single pork-laden bill, sponsored the biggest entitlement since LBJ (prescription drugs) which will saddle future generations with an $18 trillion unfunded liability. and has escalated the trade deficit to record proportions by outsourcing jobs and failing to protect domestic native industry. Now - at last! - Republican conservatives who believe in smaller, less intrusive government, reduced spending, and less bureaucratic government - are free from Bush and can freely run independently as true conservatives! Heretofore, they've been loyal to Bush at the cost of their conservative principles by giving him the benefit of the doubt. But now that Bush's "compassionate conservatism" (whatever that meant!) has been exposed as a political and economic fraud, true conservatives are ready to come forth and present a Reagonite agenda! It's long overdue and it can rally the conservative base that's been too long constrained by the pseudo-conservatism of Bush -- a man with no sincere or lasting political convictions of any sort- other than to be elected.
