WASHINGTON A Dubai-owned company said Wednesday it plans to sell all its U.S. port operations within four to six months to an unrelated American buyer and laid out new details about how it plans to pursue the sale under pressure from Congress. DP World said that until the sale is finalized, its U.S. businesses will be operated independently.

I think, after the shabby way we treated DPW, it would serve us right if they just closed up the ports and told the Longshoreman, Democrats and hide-under-the-bed Republicans to go screw!

How come all of a sudden Schumer is so fired up about "national security." He doesn't seem to care about it in any other situation. I'm sure there is no self-interest involved.

This was a political stunt by the Media/Congressional street whores.
DPW will, when the dust is settled, get what it wanted.

Good point. That's exactly what DPW should do. After all, if they are so evil and untrustworthy why are they being allowed 4-6 months to bring God knows what in to this country. Shut the ports until Halliburtan can take over.

You are aware that P&O competitor, Eller, down in Miami has lobbied Schumer?
To: MCCRon58
I didn't know they could do that. I thought the supporters of this deal were telling us over and over again that DPW wasn't being given "control" of our ports. Is that information all of the sudden wrong?
By the way, nice job rooting against your own country.

zarf:
What DPW "wanted" was a foothold in the U.S. port terminal operation market - currently held by other major FOREIGN companies - I hope we are not thinking about kicking all of them out now too.
To: clawrence3
Yeah, I was just being sarcastic. Schumer doesn't do anything on the grounds that it would be good for the US.

They weren't given control of our ports - but you already knew that, right?

Depend on how you define ports, doesn't it?
As a trucker who goes into and out of the container ports in question on occasion, I define it as the place where freight is on/off load and stored till removes from the area.
DPW would be responsible for paying for the off-loading, and storing of those containers until they left the ports to go to the appropriate end user.(consignee)
Note that there is very little here that has anything to do with national security.
As to rooting against my own country. Perhaps if you spread your ribs, you would see that the only ones rooting against the USA are those who wish to remove our allies in the Terrorist wars by alienating our allies in the Arab world.
But then again, why should I let facts have precedence over fears and feelings?
