'Leprosy drug in Milosevic's blood'
Traces of a drug used to treat leprosy and tuberculosis were found in a blood sample taken in recent months from former Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic, a news report has said.
The report came hours after Milosevic's legal adviser revealed a letter the late Serb leader wrote on Friday, one day before his body was discovered in prison, alleging that he was being poisoned.
In the report by state broadcaster NOS, a lawyer and commentator for the channel, Heikelina Verrijn Stuart, said she had confirmation that doctors first noticed the medicine in his blood in January.
Stuart said the drugs interfered with other medicine Milosevic was taking for high blood pressure and vascular disease.
"They were counterproductive," said Stuart, a lawyer who has closely followed the proceedings. "What we do know is that this is the cause of death and you can't say that it was really a case of natural death."
Stuart said the tribunal only learned of the presence of the drug in his blood last week, on March 7.
"It's naturally a riddle," she said.
Dutch doctors conducted a post mortem examination on Milosevic's remains on Sunday, but the results were not expected to be released until Monday.
A tribunal spokeswoman said she could not comment on the news report. "We don't have any information. We simply have to wait for the results" of the autopsy report, said Alexandra Milenov.
Doctors found traces of the drug when they were searching for an answer to why Milosevic's medication for high blood pressure was not working, the report said.

And he dies one day after he writes and mails a letter stating he is being poisoned to the Russians asking for help.
Clintoncide?
fyi
In other words, no need for Clinton to testify as a hostile witness?
A physician friend just confirmed that this class of antibiotics is well-known for fatal interactions with hypertension meds, specifically causing vasoconstriction leading to MI.
So if the report is true, then yes it appears he was poisoned.
Question is what will the world authorities do, what can they do with confirmed knowledge that Milosevic was poisoned?
If they investigate and prosecute the killer, then there may still be a way to trace the scheme back to its source followed by a hope for justice.
What better way to go in his situation? He has successfully taken his verdict of guilt and punishment away from his prosecute and won the final round.
Can't say as I blame him in his position.
Now to figure out who and how he got his poison. I'd say the defense attorney would likely be suspect.
Is that the anti-Slobo pro UN spin now? That the most important prisoner for the international court was able to go past security and poison himself?
A very easy riddle. Wink, wink.
Someone had contact with him in some way. Poison can be carried by an unknowing third party on documents or other items.
As for his attorney, I'm sure he had an adviser or other visitors that could have brought documents etc without notice.
It took two months for word to get to the tribunal from the 'mystified' doctors. And it sounds as if they couldn't figure out where it was coming from? Heh, heh. Slow communication over there.
Even in death, Slobo mocks the international criminal court.
These Serbs are magicians - they can not only hide mass graves but they can sneak medicine in past the UN court security so Slobo can take medicine and die making the UN look bad.
Gad! The Colonel is sure a mean drunk...
Oh I doooo love games so!
Sound like another McDougal situation.
Sounds like another McDougal situation.
Seriously, I think it was suicide.
