I'm sure they don't see themselves as racists, I'm sure they figure they don't hate "black people", and hating "arabs" is just reasonable (to them), so somehow "it isn't REAAALY racism".
The end result of their argument is always the same though... "yeah I know all the facts and reasoning say otherwise, but I just can't get over that they area a-rabs. So due to my personal issues, the USA should spit in the face of our greatest arab ally."
I'm so embarassed today that Amercia looks like such a racist nation.
I had this argument with someone yesterday. Ususally the way the racism is couched is not that THEY feel that way, but the rest of the American people won't buy having our ports run by "a-rabs".
Not everyone who opposed this transaction did so because of racism, but there was a TON of it involved, and I, like you, am embarrassed.
