Threat Matrix: Daily Terror Threat - Thread Thirty-Five

:::FreeRepublic's Threat Matrix:::
Unrest in Pakistan Setback for Terror War
(Full Story)

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan -- A week of unprecedented urban fighting in the wild tribal belt of North Waziristan has left scores dead and forced thousands to flee their homes, raising the stakes in Pakistan's war on Islamic militancy along the Afghan border.

A jumbled alliance of foreign militants, local tribesmen and Islamic students eager for jihad have stepped up resistance in a region where the army already claims to have wiped out al-Qaida as a viable fighting force.

The unrest, brewing for months, is a setback to the U.S.-led war on terror. Further hampering that effort are deteriorating relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan over Afghan claims that Taliban leader Mullah Omar is hiding in Pakistan and suicide bombers are training here.

From the excellent, eye-opening article you posted,

He said ICE has a 24-hour hotline for citizens to report any suspicious activity. That number is (866) 347-2423.

Reports Citing Imminent Attack on Iran Are Wrong, Official Says

By Gerry J. Gilmore
American Forces Press Service

WASHINGTON, April 17, 2006 – Recent news reports citing an imminent U.S. military attack against Iran are flat wrong, a senior Defense Department official said here today.
Such reports constitute "wild speculation," DoD spokesman Bryan Whitman told Pentagon reporters, reiterating previous policy remarks President Bush has made on the Iran issue.

The president has chosen diplomacy in concert with the international community as the preferred approach in persuading the Iranian government to jettison its nuclear programs, Whitman said.

Yet, it would be unrealistic, Whitman suggested, for people to believe that DoD doesn't have plans for all types of potential military contingencies, including Iran.

"We plan for all sorts of things," Whitman said.

News reports have said the United States government is planning to attack Iran over its nuclear policies. Iran has so far refused to comply with U. N. entreaties to relinquish its activities to develop atomic fuel.

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadienejad announced on April 11 that Iran had produced enriched uranium using 164 centrifuges. Such material can be used in nuclear reactors to produce electricity or to make nuclear weapons.

Bush voiced his displeasure at Iranian efforts to develop nuclear technology during an April 10 speech given at the Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies at John Hopkins University here.

"We do not want the Iranians to have a nuclear weapon, (or) the capacity to make a nuclear weapon, or the knowledge as to how to make a nuclear weapon. That's our stated goal," the president said.

Iran is on a U.S. list of countries that sponsor terrorism. The Iranian president has also voiced his belief that Israel, a major U.S. ally, should be destroyed. Senior U.S. officials believe that any nuclear technology the Iranians develop will eventually be used to produce nukes.

The U.N. Security Council put out a March 29 statement declaring that body's "serious concern" about Iran's decision to resume its uranium-enrichment activities.

The Iranian government had ceased to cooperate with International Atomic Energy Agency, the U.N.'s nuclear regulatory organization. Iranian officials have said their country has a right to possess nuclear technology.

The Iranian government's persistence in further developing its nuclear program "only further isolates the regime from the rest of the world," White House spokesman Scott McClellan told reporters during an April 11 news briefing.

It isn't clear where Al-Arian will be sent.

Are they taking suggestions?

It's well known he is bought and paid for by the unions. His only previous occupation was "union organizer."

As for all L.A. mayors being corrupt, I wouldn't be too quick to say so. Bradley started out as a good mayor but eventually became a shill for Asian business interests.

Imagine if someone like Sam Yorty were to run today... wouldn't stand a chance. We had some good ones; they simply must eventually answer to the true "powers that be" a la Chinatown. It's a big city and there are lots of moneyed interests.

Also, Riordan was one of the best, got a lot done and brought his sorely needed business acumen to the job. He wasn't really corrupt, as far as I know.

What's that old saying?

Hell is never full and there's a lot of people who can't wait to get there.

On the other hand, I wouldn't wish Hell on anyone.

Because it is such a long story, the only one that I can agree with you on, is Sam Yorty. The rest...a big huge thumbs down. Give me a few days, and I'll clue you in. You're going to be a little surprised!!!

Is this country no longer able to close the borders for an emergency?

We're able, just nobody willing to do it.

Ack, ack, ack....

:)

John Ferraro was the longest-running powerful L.A. politician I know of, yet he never attained to the coveted mayor position, except as a deputy mayor ... interesting.

Platte City teens charged in school shooting plot

PLATTE CITY, Mo.

Two suburban Kansas City teenagers were charged Monday with threatening to carry out a school shooting to mark the anniversary of the attack on Columbine High School, officials said.

Trevor P. Fattig and Sean M. Amos, both 17 and of Platte City, face felony charges of making a terroristic threat after they told classmates they planned an assault on Platte County R-3 High School, county prosecutor Eric Zahnd said.(snip)

According to court documents, a principal at the high school reported he had learned Fattig and Amos planned a "Columbine-type" incident on April 20, the seven-year anniversary of the attack in which two students killed 12 classmates and a teacher, wounded 24 others, then committed suicide.(snip)

a priority for the Mexican agenda...

THAT'S the problem - what about the American agenda? Will it take a nation of "vigilantes" to prove we mean business in securing our country's borders? The feds are not deporting illegals unless they are in large groups or found close to the borders. If they make it anywhere in our nation's interior, they're home free. Our Department of Immigration is an organization with no teeth and only minor enforcement by ICE. "Pathetic" isn't the only adjective taxpayers should be using regarding what we are getting for our tax dollars when it comes to supporting the Immigration Dept. I'll bet our nation's law enforcement personnel could revamp this department and the nation would be a lot more safe as a result of their suggestions.

When law enforcement calls Immigration and doesn't even get the courtesy of a return call or enforcement in any way, shape or form, it's no wonder illegals are running rampant in this nation. It's actually a national disgrace! Heads should roll (let them push pencils somewhere else) and strict enforcement of existing laws should forcefully begin.

Suspected militants decapitate 2 Pakistani tribesmen for allegedly spying for U.S.

MIRAN SHAH, Pakistan

Suspected Islamic militants decapitated two men in a lawless tribal region of Pakistan near the Afghan border on suspicion that they were spies for the United States, an intelligence official said Monday.

The headless body of one man was found Sunday near Madakhel, a village in the North Waziristan tribal region, a local intelligence official said on condition of anonymity because of the secretive nature of his job.

A note written in the locally spoken Pashto language warned that spies for the United States will meet the same fate, he said.(snip)
