APRIL 11, 2006 -- Wal-Mart and Walgreens say they will no longer stock Renu, a contact lens solution that has been linked to a fungal infection than can lead to temporary blindness.
So far more than a hundred cases of the infection have been reported in soft contact lens users. A majority of the patients who reported this infection had been using Bausch and Lomb's Renu Moisture Loc solution. Bausch and Lomb has stopped shipping Renu and stores are taking it off their shelves.
Symptoms include unusual redness of the eye, eye pain and sensitivity to light. So far no cases of the infection have been reported in this area. Infections have turned up in patients in 17 states.

I posted on this thread a couple of weeks back or even more that Europeans had recalled this stuff - and amazingly, it SLOWLY filtered to America. So much for the FDA to be johnny on the spot with alerting the public on these things.
I just looked at my Renu and it's the moisture loc stuff, however, I've been using it for months without a problem Makes you wonder about this stuff though, I never thought about it before.
I'm going to call Walmart and ask if they will exchange it.
I also posted from a European site that colas had higher than allowable quantities of benzine in them - voila it later appears in American publications. Wondering why the FDA or whoever else would be responsible for monitoring complaints or checking quality control haven't found those problems, since obviously the issues for these products are the same no matter which side of the pond one lives on...?

Pool problems lead to chemical burns

WIAN: A group of Los Angeles truck drivers seeking union representation and a 25 percent pay raise is now joining what's being billed as the Great American Boycott of May 1st. It seeks to cripple the U.S. economy by advocating no work, no school, no selling and no buying.
Some May Day boycott organizers are not only calling on businesses to shut down, but also asking California school districts to declare Monday, May 1st, a school holiday.
NATIVO LOPEZ, MEXICAN-AMERICAN POLITICAL ASSN.: I would like them to join us on May 1st in shutting down their business and for school authorities to recognize May 1st as a floating holiday. I'm asking them to get in front, anticipate the great absence in their workforce and in the schools.
A state Education Department officials say the decision is up to individual school districts, but she hopes the kids stay in school.
Boycott leaders vow they will "... settle for nothing less than full amnesty and dignity for the millions of undocumented workers presently in the U.S." The May 1st boycott has clear Marxist overtones. Supporters include communists, socialist and anarchist groups.

DOBBS: These are remarkable calls, by any definition. Are the officials, for example, at the port taking the threat of a possible strike on May 1st seriously?
WIAN: Well, I have to say, the port officials we spoke to today were not aware of this threat until we told them about it, but they say now they will take it seriously. They say it's likely the California Highway Patrol, the port police, terminal operators, security forces will all be at a heightened states of alert on May 1st -- Lou.

US -Canada bust up human smuggling ring

Police said 14 people have been indicted by a U.S. grand jury in Seattle in connection with the Vancouver-based scheme that transported people over the border between British Columbia and Washington state.
Four people waiting to be transported to the United States were arrested in houses in the Vancouver suburb of Surrey on Tuesday in raids that also lead to the arrest of a man police said was the ringleader.
The smuggling operation was first discovered in January 2005, when U.S. agents near Oroville in eastern Washington state received a tip about men purchasing maps of the rural border area.
Once in Washington state, the illegal immigrants were kept in hotels until the smugglers could set up flights to cities around the United States, officials said.
Yep MD...and yet these type of stories are not being reported by the MSM. These people could be exposing our food products to all types of contaminents...who knows if these workers have ever received vaccinations...who knows if they have any number of third-world illnesses. and the companies who are employing these illegals need to be investigated...are they paying taxes on these people. Without SSN's how can they be taxed? I would also suspect that they are able to get away with paying them sub-standard hourly wages. Why is there no outcry from the ACLU and other lib agencies on this new form of slavery.

Suppose those "activists" who don't show up for work no longer have jobs when they return from their protest? There are plenty of Americans ready, willing and able to reclaim our jobs AND our country. Oh, it might be edgy initially, but trust, we'd survive. If they cause enough chaos, it just might be the ticket (or wakeup call to our politicians) to sending them home once and for all.
What makes me really crazy are the churches who are promoting the thought that these illegals need our assistance. My local church and those in my area here in the Northeast, have had articles in the parish newsletters for the past few years regarding helping the "guest workers". Thankfully, every week there are editorial letters from citizens who dispute the church's stand on this issue, and remind people that these people have an option to choose to follow the law to become legal.
This also reminds me of what Saddam did when he knew that our troups were about to enter Iraq....he emptied all of the prisons.
Thanks RR. I stopped purchasing Tysons based on the owners close relationship with the Clintons. Money changing hands, etc. Of course these people would be utilizing illegals at their factories...to save a buck...and keep more money for themselves and their liberal buddies.
I believe these immigrant protest marches will garner more antipathy than the sympathy they are seeking. From what I hear and read, the "real citizens" are quickly exhausting their collective patience...............mine included.
Hope you are feeling better by now. Every time I travel, I seem to pick up some weird bug. I much prefer staying in my own comfort/safe zone. Getting paranoid.
My daughter-in-law returned her Renu to Wal Mart today for an exchange. No problem.

Breaking News: Unstable Rocky Mount Bridge Halts Amtrak Service (North and South)

Amtrak service on both north and southbound tracks has come to a halt after a bridge support was damaged in Rocky Mount Wednesday evening. -- Until the repairs are made, no rail traffic north or southbound can happen south of Rocky Mount. All trains between Florida and Rocky Mount will be cancelled as a result, as well as any trains in northern areas headed south of Rocky Mount. There is no current estimate on the number of trains affected.
