My dear friends,
This is my Opus, and penultimate post here on Free Republic.
As many of you know, I have long been growing disaffected with this website. Many of you know why. I have been stopping by less and less frequently, but have chosen to remain at least slightly associated - out of my joy in knowing you all, my friends.
However, the time has come to face facts: This place has become entirely toxic.
It is not just the science threads - long a bastion of anti-intellectual idiocy...
Nor is it merely the religion threads - long a vile pit of bigotry and odium theologicum...
Now, this place has become shockingly Stalinist in the political threads and disgustingly jingoistic in the news threads.
Several good posters, long-time members of this site, who have ever posted sound arguments and valid points, have recently been banned (and slandered) for daring to puncture the party line by bringing up historical facts and rational counter-argument.
Enough.
I’m out of here.
Permanently.
Those good folks who remain here need to seriously consider removing themselves from this cesspool.

BTW, did you also ruin Europe? Seems the European economy has fallen and can’t get it up.
So, you think that Free Republic is a "cesspool". Yet, you've spent almost 4 years posting here and participating in this "cesspool". That says a lot more about YOU more than it says about anyone else here. Good riddance.
