The political buzz among several of those at Vice President Dick Cheney's fund-raiser for U.S. Rep. Clay Shaw R-Fort Lauderdale, was more about how U.S. Rep. Katherine Harris' Senate campaign may be unraveling.
Cheney even provided some fuel when he said he was looking forward to swearing in a Republican replacement for Democratic U.S. Senator Bill Nelson -- but didn't mention Harris by name.

Though not first elected President in his own right, Harry Truman was a Senator.
Yes, but not a sitting Senator; that was my point. :)
Ah, a conspiracy post about a moonbat article. Jeb is not running for Senate.
Jeb will not ever run for the senate.
If only.
She's wishy-washy on a lot of issues.
TOMMY FRANKS FOR SENATE!!!
You poll 'Generic R' against Nelson and it's competitive.
You poll Harris against Nelson and it's not.
It's not that I don't like Harris, and while I knew she wouldn't be the strongest candidate, I didn't think she'd be as bad as she's been. But she's been a true disaster.
Jeb could do it, as you mentioned, but either Galligher or Crist might do it as well if they got a wide open primary. Foley, whom I'm not a big fan of, could also win, although I'd rather someone else, but I'd rather him over Nelson, and that's who we are getting right now.
ANYBODY who's even remotely credible could make a good go out of it. Heck, maybe we could even coax Connie Mack Sr. out of retirement. He's only 63 or something, and he'd win in a landslide, and he could just serve one term and set it up for his son if that's what he's interested in.
Well, if you mean people who have EVER been Senator, you'd have to throw Nixon and Johnson in there too. Nixon was a Senator between 1950-52 before being chosen as VP, and Johnson was one between 48-60 before being chosen as VP.
And let's not forget Al Gore, who got far too close. :shutters:
Not THAT Clay Shaw??
No, not that Clay Shaw.
In 1990, Lawton Chiles jumped into the Governor's race and whupped up on Martinez. He did it at the last moment, and was peddled by Democrats as the saviour. That may be what is happening here in the Senate race. Jeb is easily the most electable pol in FL.
Be Seeing You,
Chris
I decided that this web site lacked adequate criteria to call themselves conservative.
The White House (Rove) has been saying this politely for almost a year now.
Katherine Harris has some problems with illegal campaign contributions. She has not adequately answered the questions that came up last week.
She just is not a strong Republican candidate, in my opinion.
I think Mark Foley could be a strong candidate and give Bill Nelson a run for his money.
Mark Foley would be strong in South Florida amongst the blue haired old ladies and the Yankee transplants.
I think he would be effective.
It is so nice to have someone who actually knows something about Florida politics contribute to this thread.
It was disappointing when Connie Mack decided to retire. He is an excellent man and was a fine Senator. I doubt he'll come out of retirement.
Mark Foley would make an excellent Senator for Florida. He would have a lot of appeal in the southern part of the state. I am getting sick of these conservative litmus tests. He can beat Bill Nelson in a statewide race.
What matters most is the Senate majority and the chairmanships of the committees. The thought of the Democrats in charge of the committees is very scary. They have shown themselves to be insensitive to the security of the country on most issues at most times.
There is a primary for the "R" candidate.
Somehow I think it is inappropriate to mention any primary candidate without mentioning all primary candidates.
"I think Mark Foley could be a strong candidate and give Bill Nelson a run for his money."
Cheney might be leaving himself so they can get a vp in there who can start running soon for o8. That individual better be a real conservative. I can't take any more budget bustin' candidates.
Is anybody out there over Karl Rove yet? No more gurus, please.
