Hah! I may be a godless atheist, but I'm a connosieur of church potlucks. The church ladies are always glad to see me, no matter what the denomination. My four-layer salad is famous around the church basements in these parts.
There are no atheists at church potlucks. Now...would you pass the salt, please?
Of course hind sight is 20-20, but I should have feared the worst when the preacher said "I now pronounce you man and mouth". He was far more correct than he could have ever known.

I just happened to remember reading the post a month or so ago and laughing, then to see that they were from a methodist affiliated school was too much for me not to do the necessary search.
I'll bet they thought kristallnacht was a regular laugh riot...

It's impossible to crash a church potluck. Trust me, a stranger showing up at any church potluck, bearing a hot dish or a nice dessert, is always welcome.
Back in my single days, I found it very useful to drop in on church potlucks. I usually managed one a week. I always brought something good to eat, my own silverware (just in case that was the rule) and was always graciously received.
Besides, I'd be one of the few single guys at the potluck. After the church ladies finished saying hello, there was almost always a pretty girl to talk to. Something about a stranger in a church basement that always attracts folks, especially of the girlish persuasion. Plus...you get to eat. I can't find any drawbacks.
