FREDERICK, Md. -- Hood College is reviewing its homecoming rules after a lesbian was crowned king, a college official says.
But Jennifer Jones, the 21-year-old senior who beat out three men for the honor, says her victory last month was a plus for the private liberal-arts college.
"It is cool that Hood allows people to be themselves," Jones, of Newark, Del., told The Frederick News-Post. "If people didn't want me to be king, they wouldn't have nominated me and voted for me."
Waves of discontent are still rippling through the 2,100-student campus in western Maryland more than two weeks after Jones was crowned at the Feb. 18 homecoming dance, the News-Post reported Monday.
"She is not a man," said Singleton Newman, a 22-year-old senior who was among the queen candidates. "It is a gender issue, and she is a woman."
Santo Provenzano, 21, who competed for king, said Jones' selection made the event seem like a joke. "It discourages guys from wanting to take part in the future," he said.
Donald Miller, Hood's student activities director, said all homecoming events will be reviewed and possibly changed. "We will look at what students want Hood's homecoming to be," he said.
Jones, who is openly homosexual, received 64 of 169 votes cast, the News-Post reported. She is known on campus as a multi-sports athlete, member of the Student Government Association's executive board and president of Tolerance Education Acceptance, a support group for homosexual and bisexual students.
It was only the second annual homecoming at Hood, which didn't allow male students to live on campus until 2003. In 1912, the school's board of trustees changed its name to honor a wealthy benefactor. The institution became fully coeducational in 2002.

So true. My high school senior class voted a pregnant girl, best figure and she waddled up on stage, smiling, to take the award.
Could just be the hetero chicks were split amongst the three and there were enough lesbos to push their candidate to the front.

Through in a bunch of heteros who couldn't give two hoots about Homecoming King and it's easy to see how the lesbos could run away with it.
Amusing as hell that the outcome is considered newsworthy by a bunch of Brokeback journalists.
I dont know who got the Queen job, but if it were me this woman wouldnt get within 15 feet of me. If they have a dance where the King and Queen dance ?? Fuggit about it.
Reminds me when I use to work as a security guard for the emergency room at Parsons hospital in the early `80`s here in NYC..Every so often we would get a guy who would be so screwed up that all his clothes would have to be removed immediately, such as a gunshot victim or even one time I remember one getting chainsawed in the stomach and all over.
The emergency room was so low on staff that they would call me in to help out quite often, and off would come the guys shirt and pants....and suprise! Across the chest would be an elastic strip which once removed would reveal that the "guy" had breasts.
Diesel dykes we use to call them. You would never guess in a million years unless you saw them naked. The best was one who came in one night who took something like 20 hits of mescaline as a suicide attempt I think it was, and "he" basically trashed the entire place even after we strapped "him" down on the gurney. Screaming his vocal chords into shreds "He" ripped the straps off and proceeded to rip his clothes off like the incredible Hulk... Only this Hulk (and he had muscles)had those perky breasts and "Alotta Fagina". You would never know it in a million years unless you saw them naked. Think of that next time you see a guy who you think is buff. Oh yeah, and a lot of them also had facial hair like that pic above. It could have been steroids but I don`t think so. They truly are men "in between".
Oh, I don't know. I think the San Francisco Giants are going to draft her for their team.
Isn't a liberal education a wonderful thing?
