about the awards show being a "place where you can watch all your favorite stars without having to donate any money to the Democratic Party."

LOL. his next joke was even less funny to the Oscar crowd. But I was quite amused when I heard it.

___

"I have to say it is a little shocking to see all these big names here, these huge stars. The Oscars is really I guess the one night of the year when you can see all your favorite stars without having to donate any money to the Democratic Party. ___

"I look at it as a nod to all of my films because to me I just made one long film." _ Honorary Oscar winner Robert Altman, director of 37 films including "M-A-S-H," "The Player" and "Gosford Park."

___

"It's a funny thing about winning an Academy Award. This will always be synonymous with your name from here on end. It will be, Oscar winner George Clooney, sexiest man alive 1997, `Batman,' died today in a freak accident ..." _ George Clooney after winning his first Oscar, for supporting actor in "Syriana."

___

"What an amazing feeling. Terrifying, but amazing. Mom I know you're up there somewhere, I think." _ Cinematography Oscar winner Dion Beebe for "Memoirs of a Geisha."

___

"I do my own stunts." _ Jennifer Garner, after nearly tripping on her way to the microphone to present an award.

__

"I'm going to be so good I'm going to have a halo by the end of the night." _ Isaac Mizrahi, E!'s red carpet interviewer, when asked if he would be behaving, referring to his risque grope interview style during arrival festivities at the Golden Globes.

___

"I do have some sad news to report. Bjork couldn't be here tonight. She was trying on her Oscar dress and Dick Cheney shot her." _ Jon Stewart.

___

"I want to thank the academy for sitting me next to George Clooney at the nominees luncheon." _ Corinne Marrinan, co-winner of the short subject documentary Oscar for "A Note of Triumph: The Golden Age of Norman Corwin."

___

"I am so proud to have worked in this movie, `Brokeback Mountain,' a movie that once again show us that love is what makes us all very similar despite that we can be so different, too." _ Gustavo Santaolalla, original score Oscar winner for "Brokeback Mountain."

At least they bothered to follow their own definition of "documentary" this year.

Unfortunately, no one remembered to send a Hollywood shout-out to the troops, whose starring roles outshine all of Oscar's gold.

Amen...something about not being worthy to tie the bootlaces...

"Clooney claimed that Hollywood talked about social issues before anyone else. "We are the ones who talked about AIDS when it was just a gay disease," he said."

It is STILL just a gay disease and all the sitcoms, movies, awards, media hype, fundraisers and screaming isn't going to ever change that one fundamental fact.

CRASH was by no means an unexpected victory, nor did its win have anything to do with its message, or BROKEBACK's gay cowboys being too - er - hard for Hollywood to swallow. CRASH won because its makers sent out a gazillion "screeners" - free DVDs - of the film, to every member of every union with voting rights in guild or academy awards. These guilds and members are mostly middle aged or older and not into going out to see movies all that much, just like everyone else. So they voted for the one they'd seen, CRASH. It might also be a backlash against the discontinuation of sending out screeners when piracy concerns (and cheapness) became an issue for the studios. But that's what won the award, and I'm hoping this leads to an avalanche of freebies next year.

Its all about THEM. They made it very clear they don't care about us, they don't acknowledge there's a war going on and our values are passe. The feelings are returned in kind. I have no use for rich out of touch liberal snobs. The "heart and soul" of America Hollywood ain't. Not by a mile.

(Denny Crane: "I Don't Want To Socialize With A Pinko Liberal Democrat Commie. Say What You Like About Republicans. We Stick To Our Convictions. Even When We Know We're Dead Wrong.")

Newsflash: It's still just a gay disease.

This review of last nights events is right on the money..Hollywood is no longer the entertainment capitol of the world but the most Pathetic place in the world..I think most American will agree 100% that our entertainment industry is no longer that..I did not watch this awful thing I knew that the media would let us know who won what..

Georgie's running his selective memory again here. Hollywood was the very last to acknowledge that AIDS even existed. Philadelphia was, what, 1993?

The most ironic award: "Brokeback Mountain" won for Best Score. How utterly appropriate this year that an Oscar was awarded for a hip-hop song about the difficulties experienced by a pimp.

Gross misuse of the word ironic, case number 104,423,075.

Disjointed non sequiturs vaguely linked by a nebulous common theme do not constitute irony, as defined by non-alanis linguists.

"Many of the stars seemed incapable of laughing at themselves"

I think the real problem is they're just too dumb to get the jokes.

Now your gonna have gay guys roaming all over the mountains in $600 dollar cowboy outfits looking to get their backsides broke. I'm going to Chicago for vacation.

I would like to take this opportunity to remind all the actors of the academy of their roles and responsibility in accordance with their chosen profession.

1.) Entertain me.

The following does not entertain me:

Your opnions
Your activism
Your political postition
Your relegion
Your stance on abortion
Your stance on war
Your stance on the death penalty
Your stance on gun control
Your stance on the environment
Your awards
Your ego
Your problems and/or how you overcame them
Your money
Your.................

Just get in front of a camera and do something to entertain me. You are expendable. I am easily entertained. Do your job, no more and no less.

I bought the "Walk the Line" DVD the day it came out. It's pretty nearly the only movie I've ever seen where I forget I'm watching a movie. Not that the actors are clones of their characters -- it's just that they come across as real people.
