I suppose on this thread it goes without saying, but I'll say in anyway...BOYCOTT THE OSCARS tonight.
I want the ratings for this year's program go into the toilet (where most the nominated movies belong). I won't waste my money to see the films, my electricity to watch the Oscars, or my time watching to witness Hollywood's self-adulation fest.
Pass it on...
Good call.
Jon Stewart, a NYer in LA - almost like being a foreigner - and he did okay.
Someone said on FOX the other day there is still a lot of older academy members who are not comfortable with pushing this kind of movie and would probably vote for Crash instead... hmmm, guess he was right.
Crash was alright --- but best picture? Oh well, I didn't see any of the others nominated...lol.
I saw that one on DVD ... good movie.
That was absolutely ridiculous. Shakespeare in Love got a lot of votes from the folks that wanted to seem cultured by "getting it". People still talk about Saving Private Ryan now, while Shakespeare in Love fell off of the cultural radar immediately after taking best picture.
More like an Oak Tree.
Lonesome Dove was one of the few books/movies that, when it ended, it left me frustrated. I wanted to turn the page and see what happens next. To me, it was the perfect western.
Everybody? or just white people?
I sure got the feeling that the audience was not really all that happy with Jon Stewart by the end of the show...
I agree. I thought it was really well done.
According to the people I know who saw both movies, Crash was definitely better.
Don't intend to see it either.
I suppose a tender love story could be written about a shepherd and his favorite sheep too. I would criticize and condemn that one without bothering to see it either.
There is no inherent virtue in watching crap just so you can say you have been exposed to better and more complete evidence of its craptitude. That's like thwacking your thum with a hammer instead of just using common sense to decide the idea is stupid.
They just said Stewart will be on Jimmy Kimmel Live with Tarantino after the news. It will be fun to hear what Kimmel has to say about all this.
Barney is going to put a parking ticket on the Govenor's car!
Later, good people..
sw
Up to speed on a Sunday night? Nay, not possible!
Everybody. Whites, blacks, hispanics, asians.
FWIW, my brother saw Brokeback last week, and despite the grand scenary, he found the gay love affiar undeveloped and unconvincing. He found the movie to be a disappointment. Hearing that, I thought Crash might get it. We watched that together, and were both impressed, at its quirky subtle effect.
The last time they did Casino Royale they did it with a new bond and a strange script and the movie was horrible... I'm afraid this is going to be a repeat.
