Winners - 5th March 2006
Third Place - Anita
Anita's back! #6. NYTimes says that Renana Brooks, a clinical psychologist practicing in Washington who said she had counseled several White House correspondents, said the last few years had given rise to "White House reporter syndrome," in which competitive high achievers feel restricted and controlled and become emotionally isolated from others who are not steeped in the same experience. What goes around - this time came around, very fast. #20. President asked 5 European nations to negotiate with Iran on nuclear issue. They failed miserably. Then, our President single-handedly achieves an historic deal with India. If this were a Clinton, the topic of Sunday talk shows will be this. But then, we have Powerline guys to show what it really means and President is received there. # 25. The co-author of the fake AP Katrina Briefing Story and the fake 60 Minutes II Bush national guard story producer in 2005 is the same - Margaret Ebrahim. #104. Media Nuggets has a bit of Russert & Libby. ###### Drudge raised Bill Sammon's book to #1 at amazon in 3 days. Now book fever is catching up. NYTimes WH correspondent Elisabeth Bumiller is taking 1 year leave to write a biography of Condoleezza Rice. Stating conflict of interest, her husband - diplomatic correspondent Steven Weisman was transferred as economic reporter. #206. This is what happens, even talking a lie repeatedly make you believe it is true, ie., the polls. Every network is paying for their pollsters. But they read every nagative poll conducted by others too. And then they read the averarage of them too, to say Bush is doomed. Problem is, NOT ONE of them are reliable with one exception, Rasmussen. #217. I was angry yesterday when Greg Jarret on Fox accusing the student editor as if he did something wrong (they never question when they attack churches or religion) and then bring the "fake koran-gate Isikoff" (who was reponsible for 20 innocents death) as "expert" to discuss about it. #234. Mathews should know, even the NYTimes admits - He's Battered, but His Agenda Isn't Beaten - as broken clock is correct twice daily, as is this NYTimes article about Bush. #275. It 's always good to be criticized than ignored. Bush is being criticized because he 's all the more powerful than media what the media want to believe. Bush is ignoring the media because he thinks they don't have the power they believe they have. 291. You 're right. He is running for mayor because he has no chance of winning Left.governorship back. Bobby Jindal will be the next Gov. #335. On ABC, Jack Murtha just called General Peter Pace a liar. It puzzles me how dems. can get away with outrageous comments like this. Also, 12, 45, 69, 91, 162 and 252

Second Place - Old Friend
John McCain likes to claim he is a "Straight talker", he could take lessons from our top two posters this week in straight talking. #187. Quagmire has given way to Civil War. The media is just so transparent. #220.CSPIN screens the callers and hs become a danger to our society. They allow total crazies to spout conspiracy theories that do nothing but incite people against America in general and the President in particular. #258. "I have repeated over and over......who will be the first politician to stand up and say that the President of the United States has the right to usurp the power of any governor of any state in an emergency" #301. The Opportunist Party is populated by so called republican pundits. They're great partners to the Donner Party. #348 "Just heard a soundclip of Barney Frank......I simply channel surf and catch the most amazing egregious lies and slander coming from the left. And sometimes from the right. Pathetic, isn't it." #405 Sickening in the extreme. Thanks for that bit of info I was lacking. Didn't realize that Ann Richards was in concurrence with the introduction of tanks to the standoff #406. Any inner city in a blue state would be very dangerous for the uninitiated. #421 Weasley was busy trying to get our troops out of harms way when the Rwanda massacre was evident. #578. You can't really be waiting for even handed from the MSM? #583. Sadly enough there was a freeper the other day insisting that perception is reality...NO NO A THOUSAND TIMES NO. Also #187, 209, 225, 228, 230, 231, 232, 241, 247, 249, 254, 287, 290, 301, 311, 298, 316, 318, 321, 395, 341.

THE WINNER - SAMANTHA
The gap between 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place this week was very very very narrow. Well Done Sama! #184 "I am afraid William F Buckley has spent two many years in two many Pubs,". #196. "That cover story on the Gay Magazine is why W. Clark dropped like a rock in the competition for the Presidential Primary sweepstakes." #210. "Judging by some of the stories about how these reporters are having emotional problems, we might change the has been media or Old Media to "under Psychiatric care media". #237 Excellent point, we have recognized over the last few years and particularly in the last 16 months since the 2004 Election the MSM has gone quite "bonkers". #265. "The MSM lies, obfuscates, leaves out important facts, does not do their homework, only speaks to negative influences like the Unions and in general mucks up every story." #282. "The problem with almost all Democrats and some Pubbies is that compared to George W Bush they all wear panties and Bras, or appear to." 309. "Exactly, Russert only has Buckley on his program when he will trash Pubbies and the President specifically, or if he wants to talk about "DRUGS". 327. "I believe that without William F Buckley being Rush Limbaugh's role model (besides his Dad), he would not be the Excellent spokesman for Conservatives that he is today." 330. "That is an excellent post. I like that Mentally Sick Media..". #358 "You are right, the Old MSM has been in this blame Bush mode for so long they cannot help themselves. They are like Alcoholics that just need another drink." Also, 416, 446, 453, 472, 499, 510, 516, 524, 538, 547, 565, 584, 590, 600; 622; 633; 673, 679, and 680.

Ok, I got so tied up with the Politics this week that I did not get the Top 10 from last Sunday posted very timely. (Primary/Caucus night was Tuesday did anyone even notice due to the Port Deal media storm?)

Was going to switch to posting it on the following Saturday Thread but Rodguy pointed out some people look for that as summary when they miss the thread so we will be going back to posting the top ten on Sundays after the last FNC show (when possible.)

Ok, the top 10 from Sunday March 5th.

10. Carolinamom. #16 Not a peep about THE President's historic trip or his personal courage. WHY, why, oh Lord is John Edwards trying to get elected again news? #24 But watch Russert give exposure to Edwards' latest....vouchers for HOUSING but no school vouchers. Un-B-leave-a-bull. (Wants POR people to get vouchers to move to where there are better schools.)

9.Freedom Neocon. #58 Stephi asked him "nearly 80% of termainls are Foreign owned, would you have them all divest and wouldn't that create economic chaos?" He said "yes, but only after a list of them is gone through and DoD picks the ones that cannot be done" BUT correct me if I'm wrong, but is that EXACTLY what happend since Aug '05? It went through screening and all that.It will be #350 VERY sad if we make a few more MILLION enemies just because some people can't get over their personal issues with "a-rabs" or "Muslims" and would ignore every other aspect of the UAE history, the security checks it has already gone through, or various "pros/cons"... blinded to everythig else, just because of some (sometimes understandable, and hopefully temporary) psychological dysfunction. Also,10, 66, 79, 107, 117, 149, 156, 179, 188, 222, 262, 341

8. Seattle Conservative. Sorry you had to post and run SC! #546 Interesting article that's not too kind to Hill and the Dims. Looks like someone in Dubai knows what we know about the Dims (they want to turn America into France) and GWB: "What are the lessons for the UAE and the whole world from this episode? First off — character matters. George Bush — like or despise him — is a man of principle." Meet the Clintons in and out of the UAE Khaleej Times ^ #456 "LOL! The "Mentally Sick Media"" Perfect!!! BTW - here is one FReeper's idea on how to get back at some of those in the MSM - a different kind of boycott: LIBERAL MEDIA SMACKDOWN - Putting them out of Business NoDNC.com report ^ | March, 4, 2006 | NoDNC.com Staff Report. #329 Good morning everyone! "He said the democrats should just shut up and let the Duncan Hunter's of the world do the talking and they will hurt the republican chances of winning all by themselves. He is spot on with his comments -- these republicans who are speaking out against the President, with some of their rhetoric, are only hurting the republican party, not helping it." Also, 329, 381, 417, 425, 441, 476, 490, 491, 495, 525, 530, 534, 536, 549.

7. Mo1. 351. "Something else is up and pushing this reaction from the Hill and I don't think it has anything to do with national security" You sure nailed it MO1, it was a Democrat Senate "Influence for Hire" kick back and PR Stunt. #122 Pace is very gently blaming the press for the falling support back home. #83 The media/press can't report the truth about what is really going on Because it would make them wrong and Bush right NYTimes says that Renana Brooks, a clinical psychologist practicing in Washington who said she had counseled several White House correspondents, said the last few years had given rise to "White House reporter syndrome," in which competitive high achievers feel restricted and controlled and become emotionally isolated from others who are not steeped in the same experience. Some in the DC Press are seeing a shrink and it's all Bush's fault ??? BAWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA Also, 113, 136, 157, 164, 170, 185, 200, 212, 233, 243, 248, 256, 259, 315, 326, 353, 359

6. Maica. #61. In case you and I are the only two viewers of CSPAN this morning, I will share with you that I was on the open line segment about 8:55, asking why CSPAN did not cover the President's trip to India and Pakistan. The host told me that they would have had to buy a "package" of the coverage from the pool, and the price at $50,000, was considered not to be a wise expenditure of their limited funds #135 @@@@ They obviously did not get along. However, the media made Brown the scapegoat. Why do they not bash Chertoff for choosing to go to Atlanta for a Bird Flu conference on the day after the flood? Because they have chosen their whack-a-mole and it isn't Chertoff - yet. #148. Brownie claims and believes that he did a great job on 4 hurricanes the previous year in Florida. The difference between the states and their governors are the difference between the automobile vs the horse and buggy age. So in Florida, FEMA did what it was tasked to do. The infrastructure of Florida and the executive abilities of Jeb Bush did not interfere with what the FEMA mandate was. Brown was totally unprepared for the obstruction and lack of cooperation he found in Louisiana. He also is not very articulate so he sounds whiny. 207. He would help himself if he had some facts and figures to bring to this new round of TV appearances. How many MREs were delivered to the Superdome - How many rooftop rescues were accomplished by the Coast Guard and other military agencies - How many very ill people were triaged and sent to other hospitals - How many criminals were released from prisons - How fast the pumps were replaced or repaired - How many Navy and Coast Guard vessels were deployed to the Gulf Coast BEFORE the storm, so they would be in position to help after the storm had passed - And especially, every time he is on TV he should say New Orleans suffered two attacks by nature. The hurricane hit at dawn on Monday. It passed. The sun came out. People cheered. The canal walls failed Monday afternoon and Monday night. The flood that inundated the Ninth Ward and St Bernard Parish happened late Monday and Monday night. Also, 75, 77, 99, 155, 158, 176,

5. Gov_Bean_Counter. #317. http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1590164/posts Dang it. #531 Little Peter is starting to sound a lot like these guys... http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1590164/posts WAAAAAA!!!! #537. Sorry these guys... http://www.salon.com/politics/feature/2000/12/14/ethics/index.html #612. If they believe in it so, why the hell aren't they willing to fight for it themselves? They write and vote on the legislation. Negotiate this away, negotiate that away. Where is the stinking legislation that reflects the conservative view? also, 558, 563, 567, 599, 616 and 619.

4. Cboldt. Another perpetual top performers, the Sunday Thread's self-proclaimed "Crank" had some great stuff again this week. #198. Not exactly. (On How DHS got Formed) http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1520728/posts?page=154#154 But I do agree that government overpromises, and have held for a long time that we could be more secure with less centralized oversight. #251. Nope. Canal walls failed during the storm. National weather Service issued a bulletin at 8:14 AM on Monday re: Industrial Canal; The 17th Street canal was reported broken at 3AM (by National Guard Bureau) and 5AM Monday (by LA State Police. #382 (About the Port Deal Critics) think it's nothing more than the everyday combination of groupthink and "can't ever admit mistake" entrenchment. Irrational, but very common behavior. In the case of pols, they are following the lead of what they hear from constituents, and the initial reaction FROM ALL QUARTERS was strongly biased against the sale. #426. Not exactly - Congress built it, yes, but surprisingly, NOT in reaction to the terrorist attack of 9/11/2001. See post 198 and its associated link. The attack of 9/11 made the construction an easy sell to the public, similar to the easy sell of federalizing airport security. "One must federalize in order to professionalize. # 438. I haven't investigated the prisons matter; but on the NSA matter, I have doubts that the NYT article constitutes a publication that can be prosecuted under the relevant statute. That being said, there are no doubt classified aspects to the NSA terrorist surveillance program, publication of which WOULD be prosecutable. I haven't read Risen's book to see if it contains that sort of detail. My reference to "Libby Rule" is meant to connote the notion (popular at FR) that since Plame wasn't (and probably can't) be proven to be covert under the statutory definition, Libby shouldn't have been questioned, and Miller shouldn't have been compelled to testify, jailed, etc. #604. The DHS and ICE are pretty clear that they target searches, and I figure as much as makes sense, they look back through the chain of custody and experience as they prioritize the days search activity. The more I read, the more I'm convinced that "100% scanned for radiation at entry port" is a goal at this point, not yet a reality. #608 That isn't exactly the inference I drew. I was merely noting that "being checked" and "being screened" are indefinite terms, subject to the reader's interpretation. At any rate, looking to corroborate "100% are scanned for radiation at port of entry," I used the link you provided. It says, in part ... #620 think the bruhaha over the DPW purchase of P&O is blown so far out of proportion as to be a joke. IMO, there is ZERO safety and security ramification as a result of the sale. I'd concede thre may be a marginal difference, likely due to funding or ability to fund technology, that favors the sale. That is, I think DPW will be more able and willing to implement technologial advances than P&O would be. Also 264, 312, 389, 397, 412, 419, 507, 557, 557, 544, 604, 627, 634, 657, 667, 671
