Population trend reversing course for 1st time since '98.
For the first time since 1998, the people who relocated from California to other states outnumbered those who migrated in from other states, according to a report released by the state's Department of Finance on Thursday. California, which had a population of more than 37 million in 2005, had a net loss of 28,565 people to other states during the fiscal year that ended July 1, according to report estimates.
A department analyst said the loss can't be blamed on a mass exodus similar to one that the state experienced before the dot-com boom of the late 1990s.
Howard Roth, chief economist with the department, said California's housing costs discourage people from other states from moving here.
"The outflow hasn't changed much, but fewer people are coming here," Roth said. "Houses were already unaffordable, but they've become more so in the last two years. It's discouraging people from taking job offers in California."
According to DataQuick, the median price of a house in California was $452,000 in January. In the Bay Area, the median price was $607,000.

This RAT pack of a state has lost big time. Add Hollywierd to the mix, who would want to live in a State that is so corrupt. I'd leave in a flash but both daughters live within 7 miles of me and they have problems, health and jobs. This state sucks.

The liberal Commies screwed up San Francisco.
So now they are moving to Red States to find sanity of politics and decent living conditions.

My parents still live in the California home I grew up in. They bought it for less than $50 thousand and it's now insured for $750,000.
And it's not that great of a house.

Must have something to do with home prices being too high. Real estate speculators drive up prices, and people move away in search of greener pastures.

I'm one of 'em...I love this state. I love seeing the Lone Star Flag flying with pride everywhere I look -- I met no one, and I mean no one, that actually owned a CA Bear Flag and I lived in CA for over 40 years.
My wife and kids just went back for a quick visit to SoCal and my kids were asking their mother "what is that smell?" And commenting on how dirty and ugly so much of it was. I think a good thing, actually that they are seeing what we fled from a year after shedding tears for leaving LA...

Everyone I know is working on leaving this state, including us. Our what used to be a nice town has become Northern L.A., nothing but gangs, graffitti, and illegals.
California is turning into a thrird-world hellhole. I know our town has.

Yep, I left California after 26 years of living there. Could not get away fast enough. Moved to Montana, but still work in Washington. So, surrounded by liberals where I work, and surrounded by God where I live. So all you California folks, move to Texas, and leave Montana alone.

My sister bought a house in a San Diego suburb thirty years ago for under $30,000. The house next door just sold for $2.4 million and it was described as a 'fix-r-upper'. Thanks to Proposition 13, her taxes are reasonable. Her new neighbor will be paying many times more than my sister in property taxes to a county that is about to default on its pension plan, can't fix pot holes, and 80% of the folks going to the hospitals will not be paying their bill.
MY sister wants to stay in California but could not afford the taxes if she moved.

California is turning into a thrird-world hellhole. I know our town has.As has mine. It makes me sick. California is one of the most beautiful states. The weather can't be beat. I've seen it turn from Paradise to Hell in less than 20 years, all because of a refusal to stop illegal immigration. What a d*** tragedy.

As housing values increase, taxes increase. To the point where most people can no longer afford to own a house. They have no choice but to leave.
Some people are paying over 10 K per year in personal property taxes. If you buy a new moped or a small 2 person boat, the PP taxes on them are almost as much as the value of the property. I've even heard that in some places, if you build yourself a barbecue in your back yard, you have to declare it and you'll pay through the nose.
