03/02/06 FOX Poll: Most Oppose Port Deal; Republicans Lose Ground Thursday, March 02, 2006 By Dana Blanton PHOTOS

Most Americans oppose allowing a Dubai company to run some U.S. ports, even as a majority understands the U.S. would continue to control port security, according to a new FOX News poll. One in four sees the United Arab Emirates as a strong ally, but most either disagree or are unsure.

In addition, the poll shows Republicans have lost ground on the issue of terrorism, and by a wide margin voters now think it would be better for the country if Democrats win control of Congress in this year’s midterm election.

For only the second time of his presidency, the poll finds that President Bush’s overall job approval rating has fallen below 40 percent — today 39 percent of Americans say they approve and a 54 percent majority disapproves. Late last year the president’s approval hit a record-low of 36 percent (8-9 November 2005).

Stupidity and knee jerk hysteria is not a sound base for Government policy no matter how well it polls.

You're right, this is exactly why a Democracy is a bad idea.

Politically, for sure, the risk-reward on this deal was negative

What sense does that even make?

Your hunch is strategically it is high risk. Got any more to go on than your hunch?

I'm curious - has anyone suggested a single, specific allegation against this UAE company showing they have recent terrorist ties?

I believe these polls do routinely slant against Republicans, but people should stop dismissing them. The standard response to miserable GOP polling on this forum and others is to point out that Democrats were oversampled. Very often true. The problem is, right now, more people are identifying themselves as Democrats. The reason for this is simply that more and more Americans don't think Bush is doing a very good job.

Iraq is the center of all this discontent. The "Muslim Democracy" mission is destroying Bush's presidency. Period.

Even worse is the fact that the President communicates poorly in too many venues. His simple straightforward approach is great some of the time, but he simply hasn't the ability to speak coherently off the cuff or in front of audiences that aren't exceedingly friendly to him.

The Bush Administration's PR/communications team is awful. Scott McClellen is amongst the worst Press Secretaries Ive every seen.

Bush only stays afloat because the American public generally trusted him to kill terrorists and keep America safter than the likes of Kerry could. Sadly, the ports deal is undermining even that.

Gitmogate, WMDgate, Invasiongate, Enrongate, Haliburtongate, friendlyfiregate, Abramoffgate, Cunninghamgate, Delaygate, NationalGuardPhysicalgate, AbuGraibgate, Katrinagate, Ritagate, CampCaseygate, Torturegate, MikeBrowngate, Texasshootemintheeyegate and now Portgate. Boy do I feel like a great, big dumbass for voting for Bush and the Republicans in 2000 and 2004. Now we have FOX "polls" showing that we Republican (RED) voters are a bunch of great big dumbassgates.

"Stupidity does not become less stupid because it is popular."

Wonder if they quit lying about "running the ports" what the result would be."

If the wording were changed from "running" to "involved in," the poll wouldn't change.

Americans DO NOT want Muslims having ANYTHING to do with U.S. seaports, airports, OR the U.S. armaments industries.

Gee Mr peek smear job. Care to guess how many American Teenagers are tricked forced into Prositution in the USA by criminals each year? Perhaps you might make a case for your side on the facts instead of using gutter smear job tactics. Every society has it criminal element. UAE is not perfect, neither are we.

Both polls are accurate.

People get bent out of shape about over-sampling Dems, and to some extent, I can see the frustration; however, it does NOT materially change the numbers. If you weight GOP and Dems equally, Bush picks up about 3 points, to 42%. Still pathetic in my book, unfortunately.

You know the Bush haters would just love for there to be a Democrat Congress and a Democrat White House.

They could say "It's all Bush's Fault" and in their twisted logic, it would cause America to embrace their "pure conservatism" during the next election.

He may or may not be right on the port deal, but to attack and call all critics "racist", "Islamophobe" and "nativist" was uncalled for.

Add to the Bush use of verbal attacks : sexist ( Meier's Nomination ) and Vigilantes over citizen's efforts to aid the Border Patrol.

This is why the Founders isolated foreign affairs from the democratic parts of our government. Oh well.

"Opinion Dynamics Corporation conducted the national telephone poll of 900 registered voters for FOX News on February 28 - March 1."

Weird questions:
" Finally, in addition to asking Americans to rate the president’s job performance, the poll asked what kind of job they would be doing if they were in Bush’s shoes. Overall, 37 percent say they think they would be doing a better job than President Bush is doing, 43 percent say worse and 10 percent say the same.
Over half of Democrats (54 percent) think they would be doing a better job than Bush, while only 14 percent of Republicans feel that way. More than two-thirds of Republicans (68 percent) think they would be doing a worse job than their party’s leader. "

Precisely.

Even if you take C-BS out of the latest mix of all polls, the JA trend isn't good for Bush, or GOP`s chances in the mid-term elections coming Nov 2006.

That right rational the Statistical fraud being perpetrated here because you like the result. Hey, tell you want Fox. Reverse the ratios re poll and then report the story. You will not do that because the RESULT was predetermined and you merely gamed the sample to get it. Just more lies from the Port Deal Hysterics. Port Deal Hysterics might alway want to consider this. Overweighting your sample with Dems does you no good. You win CA/NY and New England heavily. So your poll does not take into consideration the over concertation of Dems in a few Blue areas. You got to win a majority of the 435 Congressional districts morons. Oversampling your pet areas does NOT give a true statistical sample. But keep kidding yourselfs. It makes it so much funnier to listen to you squeal on Election night.

I've been tempted to call Rush and Sean to offer a 'thought experiment': would it help Cocaine dealers to have port berth authority, to sneak in drugs? [Even a simple longshoreman can answer that one!] Do we actually think WMDs would be less likely to get 'through the security mesh' with a terrorist network friend running the berths?
