U.S. diplomat among dead in Pakistan blast: Bush

U.S. President George W. Bush said Thursday an American diplomat was among several people killed in a bombing earlier in the day near the U.S. Consulate in Pakistan's southern port city of Karachi.

"We have lost at least one U.S. citizen in the bombing, a foreign service officer," Bush said at a joint news conference with Indian Prime Minster Manmohan Singh in New Delhi.

"Terrorists and killers are not going to prevent me from going to Pakistan," he said, two days before his scheduled arrival in Islamabad for talks with Pakistani President Gen. Pervez Musharraf.

At least four people were killed and more than three dozen others were wounded in the blast Thursday morning outside the local Marriot Hotel, according to media reports from Karachi.

The Associated Press reported that police initially said two car bombs had gone off, but provincial police chief Jahangir Mirza said a single car bomb by a suicide attacker may have triggered a second explosion when a burning car's fuel tank caught fire.

It quoted Shabbir Qaimkhani, the provincial health minister, as saying four people were killed and 49 others were wounded.

The blasts reportedly occurred in the parking lot of the Marriott, about 20 meters from the U.S. Consulate gate, and shattered windows at the consulate and the luxury hotel.

TV video footage from the scene showed a crater in the road, with Pakistani security forces and emergency workers rushing to douse burning cars and trucks.

Stupid MSM rushes to assume it was a diplomat, when the official word is just a foreign service worker. Could be anyone not hired locally, from cook to secretary.

They did quote the President as saying it was a foreign service 'officer'.

Regardless of title and occupation, it's a shame a fellow American was killed.

Very sad news.....prayers for the family of the departed soul. He died in the service of his country in a hostile, foreign land.

Just FYI: Pres. Bush leaves for Pakistan on Friday. May God protect him from any probable danger.
