Since "Free Republic is an online gathering place for independent, grass-roots conservatism on the web. We're working to roll back decades of governmental largesse, to root out political fraud and corruption, and to champion causes which further conservatism in America.", I and others think it's a good idea to centralize what the goes on in the Senate (or House).
So if you see something happening on the Senate/House floor and you don't want to start a new thread to ask if anyone else just heard what you heard, you can leave a short note on who said what and about what and I'll try and find it the next day in THE RECORD. Or if you see a thread that pertains to the Senate, House, or pretty much any GOV'T agency please link your thread here.
If you have any suggestions for this thread please feel free to let me know.
Here's a few helpful links.
C-SPAN what a great thing. Where you can watch or listen live to most Government happenings.
C-SPAN 1 carries the HOUSE.
C-SPAN 2 carries the SENATE.
C-SPAN 3 (most places web only) carries a variety of committee meetings live or other past programming.
OR FEDNET has online feed also.
A great thing about our Government is they make it really easy for the public to research what the Politicians are doing and saying (on the floor anyway).
THOMAS where you can see a RECORD of what Congress is doing each day. You can also search/read a verbatim text of what each Congressmen/women or Senator has said on the floor or submitted 'for the record.' [This is where the real juicy stuff can be found.]
Also found at Thomas are Monthly Calendars for the Senate Majority and Senate Minority
And Monthly Calendars for the House Majority and Roll Call Votes can be found here.
THE WAR DEPARTMENT (aka The Dept. of Defense)
Yes, for the first time, I thought Collins sounded "human" when she was responding to Reid....
Schumer made me want to gag when he mentioned that he wears a flag on his lapel everyday, in memorium of 9/11..!!
I heard somewhere, yesterday, that going into yesterday's luncheon caucus, the dems didn't have any intention of attaching this Dubai deal to this bill...
BUT...the luncheon dicussion got heated, when they found out about the amendment that the HOUSE, led by the REPUBLICANS were attaching to the supplemental bill...
So...they said that they can't let the HOUSE/REPUBLICANS get out in front of quashing the ports deal...so it was decided during lunch yesterday, for Schumer to pull the trick that he did on the Senate floor...
LOL
I think that's a reference to the DPW issue. I agree, that is not breaking on party lines.
Now he's blaming Newt for polluting the House.
Just a segue for things to come in his speech ...
This is getting exeedingly ugly.
Rather entertaining to me. I wish I didn't have chores and work to care for this morning. I think Frist made a tactical error by not permitting Feingold's amendments to be offered and debated, this could be a bit of payback for that. Much as it seems painful, Specter's approach in Judiciary seems to be more effective in the long run.
LOL...boy, you are on your game today, aren't you!!
I feel the same way...I love it when the Senators starts argueing with each other!
Dorgan just said the the UAE would be MANAGING AMERICAN PORTS...
Oh, yeah, it will be a real intelligently debated subject.
Oh....dear. I do believe I stopped down the thread. sigh
Dorgan wants to know why Americans can't "manage" its own seaports. I have this to say about Dorgan: In order to have intelligent debate, you have to have intelligent and honest people engaged in it. We do not have that in the Senate.
No. By piping up, you took on responsibility for keeping the rest of us informed.
I'm off to do necessary chores - carry on!
But seriously, the thread is better, I think, when it's not as cluttered as the typical live thread.
No you haven't, sleuth. I am just listening in amazement as Dorgan plays the fear card.
Dorgan is funny in that when he talks about the attemped stike on OBL in the 90's, but cancelled due to the UAE folks being present -- he blames it on Tenant rather than Clinton. But when he talks about what is going on now, he blames it on Bush rather than anyone else. I hope someone calls him on it, but I doubt it. Pubbies have no spine to point out the blatant hypocracy.
He says "Why should we have a 45 day review, I don't need 45 minutes!" Then, goes on to lie, and say it was the Dubai company that wanted the 45 days...I do believe the White House also said it was okay...
BUT, he just admitted that HE and probably 99% of the Congresscritters are NOT interested in finding out the actual contract, and the actual scenario...so they all have NO INTEGRITY....
Why should the company OR the POTUS have to give in to their demands, if their demands are BOGUS!
Well...isn't it interesting that NO Reps have gotten up to speak about this except Susan Collins and John McCain...and both of them are just mad that it stopped down the Lobby Reform Bill yesterday...
Sounds to me, like the President has an all out revolt on his hands...and needs to crack some heads together..OR, give up the ports deal.
Which could open up another can of worms, about what would the reaction of the UAE be? The Arab world? Would this also include getting ALL of the foreign owned ports deals voided?? What if DPWorld SUES...this could be tied up in litigation for a long time...what do the ports do in the meantime??
So many questions, so few answers....BUT, as we all know, it isn't about the answers, it is about the PERCEPTION!!
So...the next time we have a terrorist attack, we can throw up out hands and say that we thought we had the PERCEPTION down pat.
Cloture vote at 2pm today by agreement of Frist and Reid.
Nope
Hubby is having car troubles and I had to run out to get him and couldn't hear the rest of the "As the World Turns in the life of the Senate" soap opera
thanks for all the updates
I can't speak for others .. but I trust the President a hell of alot more then I do many of these nit wits in the Senate
Frist just on asking for the Cloture vote to be at 2:00 PM today...
Well....Reid was calling for everyone to DENY cloture, so we will see...
BTW...I forgot to mention in my many rants today...that I have yet to hear ONE congresscritter point out that THEY were the ones the structured the CFIUS program...so if they are angry about the process, and being left out of the decisons...well just damn...it ya'lls own fault!
But, now that President Bush is lying on the Oval Office rug, a whipping dog, for them to FLAY....that bit of FACT won't stand in their way.
"So...the next time we have a terrorist attack, we can throw up out hands and say that we thought we had the PERCEPTION down pat."
Have you seen this???
Specter may block funds for wiretaps

Boxer is up now praising Schummer
Sounds like Norm Colemen has concerns .. but isn't against the port deal and says the review should go forward
Well....isn't that special??
I wouldn'd expect anything different from Specter..sigh
BTW...I am glad I missed Boxer...I was in the shower, BUT, lo and behold Norm Coleman must have read my rants...HE is bringing up the fact that none of them are waiting for the 45 day review to happen before they want to pass legislation to stop the deal...
Finally....
