Senate Coverage -- (March '06)
Thomas ^ | 3-1-06 | US Congress

Since "Free Republic is an online gathering place for independent, grass-roots conservatism on the web. We're working to roll back decades of governmental largesse, to root out political fraud and corruption, and to champion causes which further conservatism in America.", I and others think it's a good idea to centralize what the goes on in the Senate (or House).

So if you see something happening on the Senate/House floor and you don't want to start a new thread to ask if anyone else just heard what you heard, you can leave a short note on who said what and about what and I'll try and find it the next day in THE RECORD. Or if you see a thread that pertains to the Senate, House, or pretty much any GOV'T agency please link your thread here.

If you have any suggestions for this thread please feel free to let me know.

Here's a few helpful links.

C-SPAN what a great thing. Where you can watch or listen live to most Government happenings.

C-SPAN 1 carries the HOUSE.

C-SPAN 2 carries the SENATE.

C-SPAN 3 (most places web only) carries a variety of committee meetings live or other past programming.

OR FEDNET has online feed also.

A great thing about our Government is they make it really easy for the public to research what the Politicians are doing and saying (on the floor anyway).

THOMAS where you can see a RECORD of what Congress is doing each day. You can also search/read a verbatim text of what each Congressmen/women or Senator has said on the floor or submitted 'for the record.' [This is where the real juicy stuff can be found.]

Also found at Thomas are Monthly Calendars for the Senate Majority and Senate Minority

And Monthly Calendars for the House Majority and Roll Call Votes can be found here.

He does not have the stamina to be President.

I agree. Even without his duplicity and his wrongheaded policies, his age and his questionable health should be enough to keep him out of the nomination.

He is not well. My dad is 63 and if you compare my dad to him, no contest. My dad still moves and thinks like a young man. Like President Bush.

He is not well.

I agree, and I don't think much of his mental stability either.

Well yes, I mean just from looking at him it does not appear that he is up to the job of being President. This is not the first time either, I have seen him at other times when he seems to tired.

Mr. FRIST. Mr. President, today we had some good debate, made good progress, had good discussion on this border security bill. We had hoped to have more votes on amendments to this bill this evening. We were unable to make that progress. But we will return tomorrow and try to set up votes on the three pending amendments.

Again, I am disappointed we could not schedule more action on this bill this week in terms of votes. We have Senators who are waiting to offer amendments, so I hope tomorrow we can reach agreement for a time-certain for the next votes. It is clear to me at this point that we will not be able to set any votes for tomorrow, and therefore I announce now that there will be no votes tomorrow. We will have multiple votes on Monday, and we will announce that schedule on Friday.

51 . PROGRAM -- (Senate - March 30, 2006)

The Senator from Pennsylvania [Mr. Specter] proposes an amendment numbered 3192.

Mr. SPECTER. Mr. President, I ask unanimous consent that further reading of the amendment be dispensed with.

The PRESIDING OFFICER. Without objection, it is so ordered.

Mr. SPECTER. Mr. President, as noted, this amendment will put before the Senate the bill which was passed out of the Judiciary Committee on Monday. There is one modification. There is a title which remains as to judicial review, and for procedural purposes, we have left the title in as to judicial review. But it is my intention to modify that, depending upon what the hearing discloses on Monday.

As is known, we worked under considerable time pressure. The leader wanted a bill reported out on Monday. People came back from recess early, and people were in town on Sunday night so we could start Monday morning, which we did at 10 o'clock, and worked through until 1 p.m., and then from 2 p.m. until past 6 p.m.

The section on judicial review was not subject to debate because the chairman's mark had a consolidation of the Federal circuit. ...

Mr. Fein, the President did not keep this activity secret from Congress. It would have been a pretty dumb idea to tell the whole bunch since some of them actively work against us.

It was "advertised" that the immigration legislation would have 2 WEEKS to be debated...

HMMM Let's see...Monday, NO...lobbying bill. Tuesday, no because the lonbbying bill not done. Wednesday, a few speeches about immigration, no votes on very few amendments even put forward...

Thursday, no votes, a few more speeches, mainly between Durbin, and Sessions...a vote about checking how many deaths of immigrants crossing border...

Friday.....not much...most Senators (especially dems) probably beat it out of town...so they can avoid the Censure Hearing...

So..we are down to MAYBE 4 and a half days next week....

BWAHHHHHHHHHHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

I heard Paul Gigot say the same thing WEEKS ago on that great new show on Fox News...

And we all know why...the CHICKEN Congress can't take a principaled stance, one way or the other, because of an ELECTION...

THAT is the bogusness of politics that makes me sick.

I turned over to Laura Ingraham's show a few minutes ago after the Censure hearing was over..and she is almost RABID in her anger with Bush and any Congress person that isn't totally for a "shut the border with a fence, ship them all back" approach to the problem..

I had to turn her off for the THIRD time..first it was Miers..she went berserk...then, the Dubai ports deal...same beserkness...and now THIS...

Def....where did the America that I grew up in go?
