San Francisco is not the only city that needs to fall into the Ocean.

Doesn't matter here how the citizens vote.

We had to 'find' ballots umpteen times before the current governor was 'elected'. We have Mariner STadium - and that was voted down by the citizens.

What is with all these Northern states and their obsession with Southern relics like Martin Luther King?????

It's not like freaking SEATTLE is known for making blacks not eat at the lunch counter, forcing them into the back of the bus, separate drinking fountains, strong factions of the KKK roaming around, or the local Democrats suppressing the black man and woman's right to vote.

"Don't they know that Vice-President King was the first gay to serve in the Executive branch of the federal government? King was the long-time lover of future President James Buchanan."

You're kidding, I hope.

I knew James Buchanan never married, and was rumored to be a "friend of Dorothy," but I thought it was just a rumor.

King County/Seattle has made satire superfluous.

From Wikipedia's entry on President James Buchanan:

Questions about Buchanan's sexual orientation

In 1819, Buchanan was engaged to Ann Caroline Coleman, the daughter of a wealthy iron manufacturer. However, she abruptly broke off their engagement and died from an overdose of laudanum several days later[2]. After his fiancée’s death, Buchanan vowed he would never marry. He would live with Alabama senator William Rufus King for sixteen years in Washington, D.C., but King died four years before Buchanan became president. Rumors and speculation circulated that the two had a homosexual relationship, with references to Buchanan's "wife" and "better half," and former President Andrew Jackson referred to King as "Miss Nancy." On occasion, Buchanan himself even referred to King as "Aunt Nancy." It should be noted that nineteenth-century comments like those by Andrew Jackson and others were not necessarily meant to imply homosexuality. Eighteenth- and nineteenth-century cultural standards were very different than twenty-first century standards. Heterosexual men commonly shared the same quarters and beds in boarding houses. Language expressed sentiments differently as well, such as Thomas Jefferson signing his letters to John Adams "affectionately yours." Buchanan's sexual orientation remains uncertain, but he was presumed heterosexual.

Actually, let's just rededicate the state to Freddy "Boom-Boom" Washington.

Freddy was a nice kid, a basketball player, and Vinnie Barbarino's best friend.

MLK was a philandering law-breaker. We can't have that, unless you are a democrat.

This travesty would make more sense if the commissioners renamed King County *Jackie Chan* County. According to 2004 Census estimates, the Asian population in King County is 10.8%, while Black or African-American percentage is 5.4%.

I believe there is enough circumstantial evidence that Buchanan and King were long-term lovers (not along the lines of the innuendoes surrounding Lincoln, based only on the fact that he shared a bed with men in his younger days, which was not only not an indicator of orientation, but was often standard practice). King had a disproportionate effect on Buchanan's political views that would be hard to explain coming from that part of Pennsylvania (more like what one would become if taking on a spouse's political views). I read some accounts of when they would be parted (when holding overseas Ministerial portfolios), and would beat a quick return to the country, detesting ever being apart. Again, an attachment that clearly was on a level beyond mere friendship, one that was very indicative of an intense romantic nature.

There was also something I read about Buchanan mentioning that were he to "marry", that he would prefer some old hag to whom he would not have to assume "husbandly duties." This, of course, would be for the purposes of looking more "normal and average" to the straights. I have to wonder, too, about the circumstances of the situation surrounding his early engagement. Given the tragedy of his intended's suicide, that seems to indicate perhaps she discovered Buchanan's "secret", and the humiliation of it was simply too much to bear.

Aside from the Lincoln rumor, I've never heard any specific allegation of homosexuality made (along with supporting evidence) against any person serving as President with the exception of James Buchanan. In any event, I simply go with my gut instinct on this one. Where there's smoke, there's fire.

Maybe William Rufus King's parents wanted him to be a homosexual, because they named him after William Rufus, king of England 1087-1100, who was supposedly a homosexual.

They should resolve the King County logo controversy by using a likeness of Elvis.
