They should have gotten Laura Pausini or Eros Ramanzotti who are very popular outside of Italy.

Well, isn't Carnaval going on right now in Italy? Why aren't they doing a bunch about that? Oh, maybe they are.

brides still roaming aimlessly

Maybe the groomless bride is a subliminal message about all those Italian men in their 30s and 40s still living at home with Mama.

Well, my son and I critique every opening and closing ceremony, and we thought this one was in the Top 5 for weirdness.

Next up: opening ceremonies at Beijing. I bet those will be spectacular, except for Chinese music, which I don't like at all.

Hard to tell. All of his "songs" sound the same.

That is true!

True, but are there enough REALLY good Italian entertainers to fill the opening and closing ceremonies? And can sing in English?

But yeah, perhaps they could have gone with more of a national flavor.

Anyway, all in all I've enjoyed these Olympics. Don't care for many of NBC's programming decisions, but the production quality has been great. And loved all the trash disco songs at the opening ceremonies.

I think that is what they were going for. The whole thing is a blur.

It's over now? Kind of an anticlimactic ending.

And where was Father Guido Sarducci?!

Yes, Mardi Gras is Tuesday. I think the clowns, tumblers and confetti was supposed to represent Carnivale. (but I wouldn't have known that if I hadn't read it this afternoon.)

It's an ending--that's enough :)

I agree. One of my favorites was the opening ceremony for the Lillehammer Olympics. As I remember it, it was very simple... the people of Lapland came in on sleds (with reindeer, I think), singing simple folk songs.

The best "lighting of the torch" was - hands down - the archer who lit the torch with his bow and arrow. Was that France or Spain?

I thought it would be a tie, too. Drew said last week, or maybe just Thursday night, "no tie-breaker this time."

I kinda hoped his wife would go into labor after it was a tie and he would have to leave and Stacy would get it by default. He's kind of an angry little person, like might be an *hole in real life, but he did dance well.

I thought the Opening Ceremonies had a little more to offer than this spectacle tonight. This was terrible, and it looks like NBC's coverage of it ends as it was throughout, like they just stopped coverage right in the middle of it.
