There once was a deputy called Fife who carried a gun and knife
The gun was all dusty the knife was all rusty
Cause he never caught a crook in his life

I am truly sad about this. The Andy Griffith Show was a nightly experience for me growing up. It would come on TBS about suppertime (dinnertime for our northern brethren). There will never be another show that approaches comedy in quite the same way. Also, it wasn't just popular in the South. It was a slice of Americana.

A wonderful actor,he made you laugh with his talent, not by being lewd or outrageous.

I loved the one where there were bank robbers in Mayberry and Andy let Barney load his bullet.

He was only 81? I thought he was much older.
RIP, Mr. Knotts.

"One: a man moves into town.
B: He has no job!
3: He wants marry Mrs, Mendelbright."
Spoken while snockered on the hard cider that he and his landlady shared, sitting on the front porch, counting cars.

I first remember him as the nervous guy on the Steve Allen Show in the fifties.Yes. For the young'ns: He would be "a man on the street" interview for Steve. He would just be shaking. Steve would always ask him "Are you nervous?" He would reply with a quick "no" with eyes WIDE open. When asked what he did for a living, it would always be something like "dynamite rigger" or "diamond cutter". A very funny man. Requiescat in pace.

I first saw him in the old movie "No time for Sargeants." He tested Andy's ability to figure out a hoop puzzle. VERY funny man.

He sure will be. I use to watch the AG show every week and watch it if I can find that it is one here. He was a terrific actor.

How about The Ghost and Mister Chicken?
First "horror" movie I ever went to when I was a kid. Loved the Reluctant Astronaut too. Gonna miss him.

RIP. Another great role was the annoying neighbor on Matlock. His memory will endure forever in the American artform, television.

A very funny, very decent guy.
He was welcome in our home from my earliest age. He was almost like a family friend.
Another icon of my childhood has passed.
RIP Mr. Knotts.
