Just heard on Fox News. Don Knotts dead at 81
He has move on to the corner room at the Y in the sky!
RIP
TC Rider
Raleigh, NC
(where Barney came to party!)
There'll be an empty seat at the diner tonight.
They don't make 'em like those three anymore. And not an obscenity or sexual innuendo to be heard, just great humor.
What a wonderful cartoon! Thank you for posting it! Jim Nabors was on one of the tab shows this afternoon and said this exact thing--that he bet Don Knotts had gotten to heaven and it was just like Mayberry!
He added, he hopes *everyone* finds their own Mayberry! I loved that.
My late mother loved "It's me, it's me, it's Ernest T." also. I didn't quite share y'all's enthusiasm about him tho.
In fact, when Dennis Weaver passed away, I was thinking of Festus, the character who came after Weaver's "Chester," and I had Ken Curtis mixed up in my memory with Howard Morris as Ernest T. Bass.
Right now, I'm watching the AGS episode when Barney gave the governor's limo a ticket for being in a "no parking" zone.
The mayor got on Andy about it and called up the governor to "apologize," but you know how that turned out. He wanted to come from Raleigh and shake the deputy's hand for being the only guy with enough "spunk" to write him up.
Well, oops, Barney got upset when he heard the governor and Andy were wanting to see him later on - so Otis helps him "drown his sorrows" by spiking the spring water in the jail's water cooler and Barney's now drunk.
Andy finds Barn schnockered in the jailroom and tells him the gov is coming to see him and shake his hand! They're sobering Barney up now with coffee, at Andy's house, while the *ahem* mayor is drinking copious amounts of water from the jailhouse water cooler, lol!
The governor stops in, shakes Barney's hand and leaves to go back to Raleigh. Now Barney's all proud and saying he won't wash his hand for a week -- and they can't find the mayor ... ha, he's "sleeping it off" in the back room of Andy's office. Smashed drunk, he wakes up and thinks Andy's the governor!
Barn and Ange look at each other and say "Showers!" and drag the blankety blank mayor off.
AMEN!! Andy and Barney are "members" of my family - he is missed.
What a grand character actor! How lucky we are to have his work to enjoy. Condolences to Don Knotts' friends and family.
> I heard Billy Bob Thornton say that "The Ghost and Mr. Chicken" is his favotite movie of all time.
That's certainly the one that comes to my mind. And don't forget the voice from the back of the courthouse shouting "Atta boy, Luther!" while Knotts is giving testimony.
From "My Fair Ernest" ... Such a great line given its irony.
You know, it's a shame he never got to portray Jimmy Carter on the big screen. That would have been a trip.
Since tonight is the Academy Awards...
See the movie that has everyone talking...
