Police have arrested a man after a hit and run accident sent a police officer from the mounted unit to hospital and critically injuring his horse.
A seven-year-old horse named Brigadier lay on the pavement near Lawrence Avenue and Kingston Road at 6:55 p.m. Friday, suffering from being struck by a car.
Eyewitnesses say a car traveling along Lawrence Avenue struck the horse and the mounted officer, and then drove away.

Bill Blair told news reporters on the scene that the suspect was not finished. "The man came back a second time and hit them again," Blair said.
How awful! Poor Brigadier.

At least they caught the scumbag, but it doesn't negate the injury and death.

yeah, at least! and in the US if you hurt/kill a police dog you get nailed pretty well too, don't know if that applies to horses, but i would think so. they are considered part of the police dept.

Very sad for the horse.
I just got back in from a ride on one of my Thoroughbreds.
Very hard to imagine losing one.

I just lost mine. It is hard.
I have been around the Toronto Mounted Police, they are exceptionally polite and helpful.

How about attempted murder of a police officer?
Probably these are the sure fire charges the DA slapped on him to hold him while they sort out the rest of the more fun and serious charges.
At least I sure hope they aren't done charging him yet.

The charges look to me like holding charges, just enough to get him under arrest.
It will be up to the Crown Attorney to decide what else to charge once all the occurrance reports are in his hands.
Certainly an occurrance that resulted in an injury to a copper and the death of a police horse and brought the Chief to the scene will probably cause the coppers and the Crown to want to make an example of this turkey.
