Went from against to undecided.

Was steadfastly against it originally, I still have issues with allowing this country access to our ports.

But than again, how safe are our ports whether this company has access or not?

Opposed until I know more about it. Who stands to personally benefit from this deal that the president, homeland security nor Rummy wasn't briefed? This one has a smell I don't like.

The Jerusalem Post reported today (2/28) that Dubai PortWorld OUTLAWS use of its facilities to any Israel company or entity. (as does Saudi Arabia)

Now, I certainly understand that America can't run its foreign policy entirely on how people treat Israel, this really has got me steamed to the point that I feel the USA should make a stand.

No usage by Israel. No sale to the UAE.

If United Arab Emimerates don't like it, then they can change their policy or hit the pike.

If the USA refuses to take a stand on something as benign as this, we will NEVER get the Arab world to becomed civilized in its dealings.

ADDITION TO PREVIOUS POST:

Dubai Port World also confirmed today that it will not allow Israel to use any of its six NEW port slots (if approved by Bush) in Newark, PHiladelphia, Baltimore, etc.

Real reasonable Arabs, huh?

support.....

We have a history of supporting and cooperating with our allies in theatres where we are engaged. Japan after WWII, Germany after WWII, etc. Dubai is the same here. I think that if we are to EVER change the culture over there, we need to show them that we AREN'T just about who and what they are.

It's debates just like the one we are having which the leaders of AQ and other rogue regimes (and corrupt Senators from NY) look for and pounce on to rile the masses against the US.

Oppose 100%

Giving control of major US ports over to an Islamic state is a stupid idea at anytime, much less wartime!

We could be dropping bombs on Iran any day now, Iraq is descending into civil war with our troops in the middle and we are cutting the pallies off of all funding(good move).

Does this seem like a good time to give major ports over to the UAE, where some of the 9-11 islamofascist killers came from??

The same country where their money came from???

ITS WARTIME PEOPLE! Not business as usual time!

Hi Jim,
Still oppose. Something about 9/11 makes it uncomfortable to swallow. Don't see much difference between this and turning our ports over to some German or Japanese company during WWII. We are at war and even though most of the politicians don't seem to git it, our enemy sure understands the meaning of war. I will rethink my stand when UAE recognizes Israel.

Will I vote for the Democrats if this passes? HELL NO. Am I a racist? Nope. I only judge people by their character and actions. Don't think I need to add much more than that.

Oppose, and I opposed it from the second I heard about it.
My only wish is that we could do this ourselves, America and not some other county.

I oppose it not on the security issue. I oppose it on the basis that it is just a continuation of the outsourcing of America, British or UAE, no difference. What needs to be checked into is why there are no American companies willing to do this. This puts the whole adventure into the category of 'jobs Americans don't want to do' with the added 'American companies don't want to do'. This is the sad part for America.

How many muzzies do you think are working on American owned large ships???

<< Support. I never fell for the misleading headlines. Checked it out for myself. Nothing changes basically. >>

Me, too.

Also: Saudi Arabian Airlines and Qatar and Gulf-Air and Kuwait Airlines and Alia-Jordanian and Egypt Air, let alone Aeroflot, Air China, Garuda-Indonesia [And Air France and Air Canada ;)] and the rest of our real and/or effective enemies all own and/or lease and operate cargo terminals at and every day fly scores of heavy air transport aircraft into and out of our every international airport - as does Emirates.

And, long put out of the reach of American entrepreneurs by the high risks and low returns guaranteed by the standover and shakedown tactics of their DNC-mobbed-up waterfront and maritime unions, for decades almost none of our maritime and port services have been owned and operated by Americans. Many, in fact, are controlled by much more sinister and corrupt government [China and Singapore and Liberia and Panama, eg] "corporations" than those of Dubai.

Seems on this issue the vast majority of Americans, including far too many FReepers for comfort, have become silly sheep-like shillers for such as the sanctimonious subversive, Schumer.

<< What needs to be checked into is why there are no American companies willing to do this. >>

Decades of effectively RICO-racketeering criminal conspiracy and mutual accomodations among the vast criminal enterprises know as the "Democratic" party and its DNC-mobbed-up stand-over and shake-down waterfront and maritime unions. [Think F D 'Racketeering' Roosevelt and his "new deal"]

And remember President Romald Reagan's admonition that " ... government is not the solution to our problem; government is the problem. From time to time we’ve been tempted to believe that society has become too complex to be managed by self-rule, that government by an elite group is superior to government for, by, and of the people. But if no one among us is capable of governing himself, then who among us has the capacity to govern someone else? >>

<< Can you imagine Roosevelt in `43 saying, "I'm putting Italians/Germans ..... >>

No but he did put Soviets in charge of way too much, including much of his administrationa and the lands and lives of scores of millions of Eastern Europeans.

On the other hand, Italians, [Mafia] largely as the result of the nod and wink and blind eye of the mobbed-up Soviet-agent-coddling New-Rackets-Deal Roosevelt administration have to all intents and purpose "run our ports" for decades and with a few forced accomodations for Asian, Russian, South American and a few other organized-crime gangs, still do.

And during World Wart II, men named Swartz and Wolfgang and Gieske and Schumer and Hirohito and Becker and Schroeder and Eisenhower, many of whose whose Mothers and Dads and older siblings couldn't yet speak English, not only managed our ports and our airports but flew our fighters and our bombers and lead and followed and sweated and fought and bled and died as Americans.

For America.

"And during World Wart II, men named Swartz and Wolfgang and Gieske and Schumer and Hirohito"

Minor quibble: many names of Japanese origin, but not Hirohito.

Quibble accepted. [Mr Hirohito was busy at the time alternating between being 'god' and Satan incarnate] But its use achieved its purpose and got your attention.
