Of course it is.
Nobody seems to be concerned that the same UAE is in charge of the ports that ship the container. So, if they wanted to blow something up, they could have done it when P&O was in charge.
This is much ado about nothing, but the politicos and blogs are frantic that a friendly Muslim nation might actually operate some ports.
Coming so soon after the Muslim riots over the cartoons, it's an understandable reaction. But, silly, nonetheless.
Although I'm disappointed that the administration didn't communicate this very well. But obviously that's not one of their strong suits....
Frankly I think the press in this country is a million times more dangerous than some UAE company...buying operating rights to some ports.
But what do I know?
I have to say my intial reaction was more like other people here. But I've calmed down and think this is really overblown and the Dems are loving it & using it to their advantage.
So, what Pres. Bush needs to do, is give the public an explanation for why this deal is perfectly safe. That's what everyone wants to hear. Then the hoopla will be over.
I agree that the cartoon reaction of Muslim rioting may be influencing the reaction of this Dubai deal, but nonetheless what it HAS done is reminded folks of the instability and distrust of these people and that they are capable of ANYTHING.
